2004年,国际食物政策研究所在全球范围启动了“国际生物强化项目”,并依托中国农业科学院开展中国生物营养强化项目。

所谓“生物营养强化”,就是通过育种或栽培手段提高现有农作物中能为人体吸收利用的微量营养元素的含量。不同于普通的营养强化,“生物营养强化”聚焦于植物自然生长过程中的基因性强化,而非合成加工过程中的人为添加。

据了解,项目启动至今,已培育出十多种营养强化作物品种/系,包括铁、锌、维生素A原、叶酸等多种微量营养素及玉米、甘薯、小麦、水稻等作物。“其中‘中麦175’目前已在5个省市示范种植。”万建民透露。

中国农业科学院生物技术研究所研究员、中国生物强化项目副主任张春义认为,随着新一代基因测序技术和大数据处理系统的应用,基于分子设计的个性化作物育种将成为生物营养强化的趋势。
