1937年，胡富国出生在山西省长治市长子县下霍村。今年已79岁高龄，但他仍担任中国扶贫开发协会会长一职，为扶贫开发东奔西走。在长达52年的工作生涯中，胡富国当过部长、省长、组长、会长等多个职务。
