相比起中国的孩子，国外孩子的假期生活较为丰富多彩，对此，中国教育科学研究院研究员储朝晖表示，假期对于青少年来说，主要是用于放松、休息，在假期中，制订合理的学习计划能够起到一定的积极作用，同时家长也多与孩子进行一些亲子活动，帮助孩子健康成长，不能过分功利地为孩子制订暑期计划。
大多数此类培训班往往瞄准了家长“望子成龙”的心态，但实际上培训内容并没有经过科学的设计，也就难以达到其宣扬的效果。所谓的领袖能力、气质等，往往与青少年的成长经历、后天的学习、发展等状况密切相关，是随着时间的推移和阅历的增多，可能会慢慢发展起来的一种能力，短期的培训往往很难达到。
储朝晖认为，对于青少年来说，暑期参加一些培养语言能力、动手能力的培训班，尚属合理范围，也能够对青少年的成长起到一定的积极作用。但总体来说，家长在为孩子选择培训班时，还是要考虑孩子的兴趣爱好，不能过于急功近利。
“如果学习计划安排超负荷，孩子就会产生逆反、排斥心理。”储朝晖建议家长可以多与孩子进行一些亲子活动和交流，出外走走、找一部适合的影片一起观赏或参观博物馆、科技馆，让孩子开阔眼界、增长见识。有条件的家庭还可以举家出游，和孩子共享快乐时光。
储朝晖表示，大多数中国家长对青少年成长过程中的需求了解得不够，加上长期以来形成的教育观念，往往过分注重孩子的学业成绩，而忽视了其他方面的培养。“事实上，家庭教育的核心，应该是帮助孩子形成健全的人格，而不单纯是成为一个成绩优秀的人。”
