“灰尘女”的真实姓名叫马茜·博德斯。2001年9月11日那天，年仅28岁的马茜，美国银行一名法务助理，在世贸中心北塔的81层准备开启一天的工作。
马茜·博德斯：“一天刚刚开始，电脑还没打开就觉得不对劲了，楼下所有的人都开始挤向楼梯间。”
马茜没有听从主管建议留在座位上，而是冲下了楼梯间。当她满身尘土地逃出来时，被自由摄影师拍下了照片，也因此成为这场“世纪恐袭”的经典照。
然而，幸存下来的马茜却没能摆脱9·11的阴影——她丢掉了工作、患上忧郁症、还染上毒瘾、丧失了女儿的抚养权。
马茜2014年11月透露，她患上了胃癌。马茜怀疑她的病与9·11有关，她说：“我问自己，会不会是9·11点燃了我身体里的癌症细胞，我相信肯定是的，因为我以前一点问题都没有”。
2015年8月23日，马茜去世。

9·11事件发生3年后，阿尔迪不得不辞去了原先律师事务所的工作，离开了已生活了24年的纽约，搬到了宾夕法尼亚州的乡村地区和父母一起居住，12年来，阿尔迪靠在附近小镇的一家剧院售票来维持生计。
就在今年，阿尔迪辞去了这份工作，决定把更多的时间投入到在演讲和写书中，与更多的人分享他的9·11经历。
