China in Kenya to build railway protests: prevent animal migration

According to the BBC (United Kingdom broadcaster), September 17, few Kenya angry people Friday (16th) held a demonstration in the capital Nairobi, protesting Chinese construction of elevated railways in the National Park, threatening wildlife migration, including lions, leopards and giraffes.

Road and bridge group of China's State-owned railway in Kenya Nairobi National Park across the longest 6 km.

Dozens of protesters carrying placards reading: "do not rape our parks."

Kenya people held a demonstration.

World famous paleontologist, and Kenya Wildlife Service Chairman chade·liji said earlier in the week, elevated railway will not harm the animal, so was the best option.

He said, "once the project is completed, wild animals can be free through, including flies and a giraffe. ”

But environmental groups and other groups have vowed to overturn the plan.

Local community activist Nkamunu Patita said Friday that "this is our heritage. ”

Wildlife Conservation Union Secretary Kitili Mbathi wildlife conservation submitted a petition letter requires change of railway engineering construction lines.

Mbathi said he welcomed the public "different".

The railway project is undertaken by China communications construction company limited and China Road and bridge group.

Kenya Railway Corporation is also the consent of the national environment management authority, the works can commence.

Observer Network noted that the elevated railway for construction activities will affect the migration of animals considered China as early as the construction of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway would have resolved the problem, through the construction of viaducts, including some of their animals section to provide a corridor for wildlife.

Turns out, along the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, the migration of wild animals such as Tibetan Antelope has been basically adapted to the Qinghai-Tibet Railway wildlife corridor.

Wildlife channel pattern.

As the body responsible for evaluation of effect of Qinghai-Tibet Railway on plateau wildlife zoologist Yang Qisen, since 2003, he has led his team in "ecological effect of Qinghai-Tibet Railway" project, internationally renowned zoologist George b. Schaller, wildlife protection organizations with the help of WCS, the Qinghai-Tibet Railway continuous on-site monitoring of wildlife.

They found that although in the Qinghai-Tibet railway construction phase, the Tibetan Antelope is affected by a number of disturbances, but they soon adapted by adjusting the migration route and railway engineering leads to changes in the local environment.

The Qinghai-Tibet Railway passage of wildlife.

Qinghai-Tibet railway construction many viaducts,-happy in the Kunlun mountain ridge about 259 km of major Tibetan antelope migrated sections longer than 100 meters of the bridge there are 143 bridges total length of 46 kilometres, the bridge there are also available. In 2006, for example, fetches them a total of 2,952 observed Tibetan antelope, which 98.17% from the wildlife corridor through the shows migrating Tibetan Antelope has been adapted to the Qinghai-Tibet Railway wildlife corridor.

  Mbathi
