“野生救援”认为，保护穿山甲需要更积极的宣传教育以提高公众的保护意识、鼓励支持对穿山甲的保护，以消除主要市场对穿山甲片和穿山甲肉的需求，继而压缩非法国际贩卖活动的盈利空间，可以有效去除盗猎穿山甲的诱因。
“野生救援”是1999年在美国注册的非营利非政府国际环保组织，2004年开始在中国开展工作，致力于减少穿山甲在亚洲国家的消费。
