中新社香港10月3日电 首届“吕志和—世界文明奖”3日晚在香港会展中心举行颁奖典礼，嘉许3个奖项的获奖者对促进世界文明发展所作出的杰出贡献。“杂交水稻之父”袁隆平获颁“吕志和奖—持续发展奖”，无国界医生获颁“吕志和奖—人类福祉奖”，美国前总统吉米·卡特获颁“吕志和奖—正能量奖”。获奖者各获现金奖2000万港元。
中国政协副主席董建华、香港特区行政长官梁振英、中央政府驻港联络办主任张晓明担任主礼嘉宾，近800名政府官员、学者、宗教领袖、商界精英，以及逾30个国家领事出席了颁奖典礼。

首届“吕志和奖—持续发展奖”所关注的领域是“世界粮食供应：安全及可靠性”。评委会表示，袁隆平在高产杂交水稻技术研究上取得重大科研成就，对促进世界粮食供应的安全性作出了杰出贡献。
袁隆平说，奖项所得将用在进一步发展杂交水稻上。该奖项勉励其向更高的高度攀登，将会继续奋斗，实现杂交水稻技术的新发展和突破，进一步提高粮食产量。
首届“吕志和奖—人类福祉奖”所关注的领域是“医治/控制疫症、传染病或慢性疾病”。评委会表示，无国界医生在2010年海地霍乱爆发和2014年西非伊波拉病毒肆虐时，在控制疫情和医治病人方面作出无可替代的贡献。
无国界医生(香港)主席刘镇鲲说，首届“吕志和奖—人类福祉奖”以“医治/控制疫症、传染病或慢性疾病”为关注领域，反映真正意识到，为世界各地活在危困中的人，改善医疗方法及提升紧急灾难应变的重要。无国界医生在西非对抗伊波拉疫情的经验，更加强化了这样一种观点，即国际社会仍需要做更多工作，来减少已存在的巨大风险。
首届“吕志和奖—正能量奖”所关注的领域是“其行为及成就能启发、激励别人和给予别人希望的个人或团体”。评委会表示，吉米·卡特及其于1982年成立的卡特中心的优秀工作，对促进积极人生态度和提升正能量有卓越贡献。
吉米·卡特表示，会把奖金给予卡特中心，而不是由其个人所有，相信可以帮助卡特中心拓展项目。
“吕志和奖—世界文明奖”由吕志和于2015年9月24日在香港正式创立，是一个国际性跨界别的创新奖项，旨在推动世界文明发展，嘉许在“持续发展”、“人类福祉”和“正能量”方面有重大贡献或卓越成就的个人或团体。奖项由一个3层架构组织管辖及遴选产生，包括奖项理事会、奖项推荐委员会及3个奖项类别的遴选专责小组。每位获奖者将会获得现金奖2000万港元，获奖者可为个人或团体。
