亚马逊机构代表马丁斯指出,牧业和伐林之间的关系密切,因为牧业具有非常快速的经济流动性,加上开採木材严重破坏森林生态系统,伐林范围最后往往变成牧草地。

环境专家指出,巴西农牧业还有很大的空间减少温室气体排放量,如理性使用牧草地和减少肥料用量;而政府应释出环境鼓励津贴。但最直接、有效的方法,则是减少肉类消费。

皮亚托表示,每1块牛排都会造成环境冲击,“既然我们不需要每天吃鱼和虾,也没有必要每天吃牛肉”。

气候观察组织执行长瑞特指出,地球暖化会造成热浪来袭,如里约热内卢今夏气温达摄氏40度,但民众感觉到的温度却像是50度,“气候变迁对相当依赖农牧业的巴西是很大的风险,因为直接影响经济和生活品质”。

巴西中国农业联盟(CNA)质疑气候观察组织的数据,称“温室效应气体预估系统”只呈现生产的“局部现象”。

联盟永续发展督导费柳表示,巴西的温室效应气体排放量占全球排放量不到4%,“假如考虑到农牧业对减少巴西碳排放所做的努力,包括保护生物多样化、碳存量和复原遭破坏范围,就可以发现农牧业的冲击没有报告中描绘的那么严重”。
