食品科技企业Hampton Creek创始人Josh Tetrick在演讲中认为，当前世界的食品体系存在很多问题。
他曾在非洲从事了7年的公益项目，当地有很多儿童处在营养不良的境地。而同时，我们身边很多人有肥胖症或者糖尿病，这也是食物摄入问题造成的。
Josh Tetrick还认为，其实我们每个人咬下一口食物，都在产生温室气体。全世界有100亿正在被圈养的畜牧，全世界每年产出18亿颗蛋，饲养母鸡需要饲料，而生产饲料又需要其他的资源。因此，每当我们吃下一口食物，都意味着我们在产出温室气体，甚至牲畜养殖业产生的温室气体超过了汽车排出的温室气体。
为了解决食物对环境造成的影响，为了提升贫困地区人们的食物状况，Hampton Creek决定用另外一种方式解决这个问题。
