Peter Brack走进“南加创新论坛”会场，携着他身材曼妙的中国妻子，文质彬彬。他坐到前排的座位上，与身边的人握手，“这是我的妻子”，他对旁边的人说。
Peter Brack也算是半个中国人了，他的大半辈子都是在北京和香港度过的。在那里，他曾是《时代周刊》亚太地区高级副总裁、《亚洲周刊》与特纳广播公司亚太地区的总裁。过去20年里，他建立了两个媒体公司，先后均在香港证交所上市。
Peter在90年代初从美国移居到中国，有幸认识了当时在深圳一个小公寓楼里的两位年轻的创业者。那个公寓楼里像学生宿舍一样，地上零零散落着电缆和插头，小小的房间里面根本装不下所有的工程师，大家有些时候需要坐在地上一起码代码。他们的团队在写一个软件，那两个年轻人正是马化腾和腾讯的首席信息官许晨晔，这个软件叫QQ。
过了20年，中国的创业、资本市场已经换了一番景象。当Peter把第二个媒体公司送上香港证交所后，他希望通过自己过往的经历，帮助更多的创业者成长。他把目光投向了风投行业。
在中国生活了20多年，若说离开总有不舍，纵观中国当下的风投环境，虽然充满机遇，但项目估值偏高；虽然人才济济，但市场饱和、竞争激烈。于是Peter回到美国，先后在纽约、硅谷待了一段时间，每个地方都有当地的优势和劣势。当他来到洛杉矶的时候，洛杉矶的创投环境让他回忆起了当年科技刚在深圳萌芽时候的景象。他认为洛杉矶仍旧是个“新兴市场”。
按理说，洛杉矶做为全美第二大城市、全世界传媒娱乐的中心，与“新兴市场”这四个字八竿子也打不着。但是洛杉矶的创投生态还处在初期阶段，一些迹象与90年代的深圳相似度很高。
洛杉矶创投圈不大，创业公司之间合作的氛围很浓。在这个圈子里，如果努力的话，可以认识到所有人。但同时，洛杉矶的创投圈也不小，完全可以为创投公司提供足够的技术、资金支持。洛杉矶周边的名牌大学，UCLA、USC、加州理工每年都为该地区输出着大量的人才。五年前，他们毕业之后会直接跑到硅谷创业，但如今洛杉矶有足够的条件吸引他们留下来，在洛杉矶落地。洛杉矶资本圈活跃，已经有不少风投融过了3期基金。与此同时，海外资本不断涌入洛杉矶，海外的交流团频繁地来到洛杉矶地区访问。
90年代初，当Peter来到中国的时候，那个时候资金从西方流向东方。欧洲、美国的资本纷纷在国内落地，开发中国大陆的业务。摩根斯坦利是第一家在国内入驻的投行，之后高盛、JP摩根也跟上了步伐。同一时期，像黑石、KKR这样的私募也涌入中国。之后，硅谷的风投基金也跟进来了，红杉资本是当时的第一家。
过了20年后，这个潮流反过来了，现在资本从东方流向西方。
在洛杉矶，中国资本在当地玩得风生水起：
万达先后收购、并购了AMC，拍出《宿醉》、《星际穿越》与《魔兽》等的传奇影业公司，上周万达又收购了Dick Clark这一美国电视节目制作公司；
阿里巴巴不断涉足好莱坞的电影产业，入股斯皮尔伯格旗下的电影制作公司；
腾讯收购了制作英雄联盟的游戏公司Riot Games；
乐视、今日头条、陌陌、美图纷纷在洛杉矶建立办公室；
深圳合正、绿地纷纷瞄准了洛杉矶Downtown的这块宝地，重新勾画着洛杉矶的天际线；
国行、建行成为了洛杉矶地产项目的最大贷方之一……
以上种种都像极了90年代的深圳，一个科技的“新兴市场”。
人才会不断涌入，资本不会停止，越来越多的新公司会在这片土地上成立、扎根、运营、辉煌。
然而洛杉矶创业圈的人都知道，这些仅仅是开始。
