世卫表示，利用艾滋病病毒自检工具，人们可以在私密和方便环境中使用唾液或指血等进行检测，在20分钟或更短时间内就可获得结果。世卫指出，这类自检工具目前在美国和英国的药店或网络渠道的售价在25美元至40美元间，但在非洲南部一些试点国家，通过与生产商援助合作的形式，自检工具的价格已降至3美元。
