但是机器人除了减少粮食生产所需要的劳动力需求之外还能够做的更多。自修成才的机器人研究人员David Dorhout在爱荷华州的一个农场长大,他已经研发出一种实验型微型自动种植机,并将其命名为Prospero。他希望未来Prospero一样的大量机器人能够遍布农场的每一块土地,分析土壤和水分的微妙变化并决定每一块土地最适宜种植的农作物类型。

Dorhout解释称:“你可能借助常用指令指挥一千台微型机器人,它们并非是取代农民,而是帮助他们。如果你能够快速决定哪一块土地种植什么种子,你会得到更高的产量。”这样的机器人也能够快速勘测遭受冰雹或者其它气候事件破坏的农田,并且重新种植能够更快生长的农作物。
