现年89岁的余昌祥告诉记者，他的父亲余必福当年住在南京中华门外西街，被日本侵略者残忍地杀害，遗体至今都没有找到。
“南京大屠杀虽然已经过去79年了，但我会把当年国家遭受侵略的历史告诉我的后代，让他们牢记历史，谋求和平，珍惜现在的幸福生活。”余昌祥说。

参加此次家祭活动的南京怡馨花园小学六年级的学生王之玥说，南京大屠杀的历史值得我们永远铭记，在沉痛悼念遇难同胞之时，也更深刻地意识到自己肩负着构建和平美好世界的重任。
2014年2月，中国通过立法形式将12月13日设立为南京大屠杀死难者国家公祭日。同年12月，侵华日军南京大屠杀遇难同胞纪念馆首次开展以家庭为单位的祭告活动，意在唤醒正渐渐消逝的幸存者们的记忆，让个人证言能以家庭为单位代代传承。
