冤案被平反的同时，真正的凶手究竟是谁？早在2013年，乐平市中店村人方林崽曾承认自己是5.24 的“真凶”。此前，他已涉嫌多起案件被抓。
一名知悉案情的当地村干部对记者透露，方林崽杀死被害女性后，进行奸尸，然后坐在现场抽烟，并把受害人分尸，扔在小河里。
自认“真凶”后，方林崽所涉案件也于2013年10月30日在江西省景德镇市中院开庭审理后，被撤回起诉，至今未恢复审理。
抢劫三轮车女司机被抓
2011年12月4日，方林崽一夜未归。家人等来的是他被抓的消息。
方林崽的大哥方国根（化名）向记者回忆当天的情景：当天白天，方林崽在村里做水泥工，下午四五点钟收工后，方林崽经过大哥家里，方国根的两个孙子一个孙女缠着方林崽喊“爷爷、爷爷”，方林崽咧开嘴笑。
“他（方林崽）就从口袋里掏出3块零钱给我孙子孙女们，一人一块。”方国根至今难以忘记弟弟留给他最后那温情的一刻。
之后，方林崽回家吃饭去了。晚上，他走出家门，钻进了黑夜里。
那一夜未归，方国根并没有任何不详预感，但次日没有等来方林崽的身影，当地公安却来搜查方林崽的家，“公安说他被抓了”。
那一夜到底发生了什么？乐平市洎阳街道中店村村委会一名村干部向记者称：“方林崽当天晚上抢劫了一辆黄包车女司机。后来女司机的老公送钱来赎人，方林崽拿了钱就跑了，她老公报了警。当天晚上就抓到了他，追捕的时候，他拿起一把斧头扔向民警，当时有个民警还受了伤，不过最后还是把他制服了”。
被抓几天后，方国根和方林崽的老婆任红霞（化名）一起到看守所，但只有任红霞带着她的孙子孙女见到了方林崽，其他家人未予会见。

知情人称杀人奸尸后坐那抽烟

对于5.24案，据《北京青年报》报道，乐平警方在2013年补交的一份物证检验报告中，包括现场提取的20余枚烟蒂，其中3枚烟蒂上的DNA来源于方林崽的可能性大于99.99%。
当地警方此前对外称，方林崽选择以侵害女性方式找回自尊。他会不定期冒出强烈的作案冲动，异常兴奋到无法控制。每每这时，他便带上斧头、匕首、绳子到市郊游荡，随时选择目标，逮谁算谁。做完案后，他又会充满内疚。
方国根对记者称，大概在2014年，他被看守所告知方林崽情绪不好，便劝其写了一封信，由民警带给了方林崽。“看守所民警教我写的，叫他在里面安心，家里一切都好，他的孙子孙女也都好。但方林崽的回信是给任红霞的，内容是什么我不知道”。
方国根得知，也就是这一时期前后，任红霞曾带着孙子孙女一起去了一次看守所，但最终会见的，只有当时5岁的孙女一人。“可能是他提出来想见孙女吧，但孙女出来什么都没说，5岁的小孩子什么事都不懂，也说不了什么”。
家人因他犯事留下阴影
方国根也没有想到方林崽会与这么多起命案联系在一起。村里人说起他犯的事，无不表示惊讶。
方国根从家里的一本老相册中翻找到了唯一一张有弟弟方林崽身影的照片：大概在2002年，留着小胡子的方林崽穿着一件黑色夹克衫，手里夹着一根烟，旁边是方国根以及弟弟，三兄弟的身后是他们祖辈留下的青砖瓦房。
方国根称，他家三代都是渔民。方林崽1965年出生，比自己小两岁。方林崽读完小学后，就开始跟着父亲打渔。此后，还干起了收购废铁的买卖。
方林崽收购废铁时赚的钱，比哥哥在家打渔和种田的收入要高很多，这让方国根认为弟弟“头脑很聪明，很能干。”
突然有一天，方林崽跟家里不辞而别，那是1983年前后，他18岁左右。
随后，从当地公安传来消息，方林崽因偷盗自行车被抓，被判5年有期徒刑。刑满释放后，方林崽与在农场服刑期间认识的任红霞结了婚，先后生下两个儿子。

方林崽种了多年甘蔗后，开始做水泥工。村里很多人开始建房子，他就去建房工地浇水泥。他的活总干不完，早些年赚一两百元一天，后来赚的多点，三四百一天。
偶尔有村民家里的压水井或电路出问题，都跑去叫方林崽修理。“他好像什么东西都懂一点，不过从来没有问谁家收过一分钱，修好了最多抽人家一根烟就走。”几名村民对记者称。
但多年来，方国根和家人以及村民们也发现，方林崽在因盗窃服刑后，在村里一直很少说话，也很少和年龄相仿的人聊天，“性格变得非常内向，过年过节人家都在玩牌，他也从来不玩，但没想到他会干出这种事”。
村民赵女士和方林崽的老婆曾共事过一两年。赵女士发现任红霞经常会因为一些小事情破口大骂，“她也跟其他村民吵过架，看得出来性格可能比较暴躁”。一名村委会干部对记者称：“方林崽平常在家里是吵不过他老婆的，脾气盖不过”。
自从方林崽被抓后，村民们慢慢开始对方家人投去异样的眼光。这给方国根一家人的生活留下了心理阴影。
“这么多年来，去办事的时候只要屋里只有一个女人，我从来不会进去，除非有男性在场。平常碰到有人聚集议论，我都会躲开。虽然他们没有当我的面说什么，但我能感觉到他们对我以及家人异样的眼光。或者说是我自己心理阴影太大了吧。”方国根说。

12月23日，记者来到任红霞家里，只见她两个儿媳妇在家带小孩。大儿媳妇称：“平常我公公婆婆感情很好的，没吵过架，公公白天出门干活，晚上回家也会带小孩做饭。他（方林崽）看起来就是一个很老实的农民，也不怎么说话，就知道干活”。
任红霞称，“我每个月都还在给他（方林崽）存生活费，人我见不到”。此外，便不再多说。
