位于香山公园南麓半山腰的双清别墅，曾是解放战争后期中共中央的指挥中心。1949年3月25日，毛泽东住进双清别墅，并在这里指挥渡江战役，筹备新政协，起草了《向全国进军的命令》，写下《人民解放军占领南京》等脍炙人口的篇章。
1994年，双清别墅被命名为“北京市青少年教育基地”，也成为企事业单位、学校组织过主题党日、团日、队日活动的场所。香山公园在双清别墅设立了有关毛泽东的图书和纪念品专柜，增加播放“毛泽东在双清”专题片和相关史料宣传片。
目前，双清别墅有毛泽东当年生活工作过的原状陈列；有一张特别著名的老照片是毛主席坐在凉亭里拍摄的，他坐在藤椅上读关于人民解放军占领南京的号外。
12月6日，在北京“香山地区纪念毛泽东同志诞辰120周年系列活动”启动仪式上，北京市海淀区委宣传部、北京军区司令部炮兵部、香山街道办事处、香山公园管理处，以及香山地区的老干部、老战士、广大居民朋友，以及游客数百人参加。香山地区文化人士和书法爱好者，挥毫泼墨，以毛主席诗词为主题，创作了很多作品，在现场展示。当地群众还表演了舞蹈《毛主席的话儿记心上》、女声独唱《党旗更鲜艳》、京剧清唱《娄山关西风烈》、器乐合奏《红梅赞》等脍炙人口的节目。
