追寻曼德拉的足迹是我的心愿。2008年4月，我登上开普敦的罗本岛，去看关押曼德拉的监狱。这是一个坐落在波涛汹涌的大西洋上的小岛，曾经荒凉凋敝，早年是流放麻风病人的场所，后来南非白人政府把政治犯投放于此，他们绝无逃生可能。我站在当年囚禁曼德拉的那间狭小的牢房前，见到简单的卧具还铺在地上。多少个日夜，他就在这里学习、思考、抗争，一点一滴地积累起改变南非人命运的力量。
我还来到曼德拉的家乡：东开普省的小镇库努。被绿色草场覆盖的小山像波浪一样翻滚到天边，有着锥形顶的圆形房屋三个一群、五个一组地点缀在苍茫大地上。这是当地科萨族人典型的居住方式，百多年来未曾改变，至今仍是南非最贫困的地区之一。站在一个小山头上，我似乎看见少年曼德拉和伙伴们在牛群中嬉戏的身影。曼德拉纪念馆的工作人员示意我眺望远方一处平房，说：“那里是曼德拉先生出生的地方，他也希望在去世后葬在那里。”
走好，亲爱的“马迪巴”！
