今年10月30日下午，汕头河浦中学两名高三学生小玲和小文(均为化名)，看到一名骑电动车的老人摔倒在地后，立即上前将其扶起并护送回家。事后，摔倒老人的家属却以学生撞倒老人为由，要求两名学生承担责任，并赔偿1200多元医药费。
经过当地警方和学校半个多月的取证调查，事件终于真相大白。在确凿的证据面前，受助老人承认自己一时糊涂，登门向两名学生道谢致歉，并归还了他们此前垫付的1200多元医药费。
该起事件经本报率先报道后，引发社会各界广泛关注。近日，汕头市市长郑人豪对此事做出批示，赞赏两名学生身上体现了汕头市青少年助人为乐的精神风貌，传递了向善的正能量。
11月29日，共青团汕头市委和濠江区委也专门到河浦中学举行“弘扬正气，争做助人为乐好青年”座谈会，向两名学生赠送慰问金。同时，共青团濠江区委授予两人“助人为乐青年模范”荣誉称号，鼓励广大青少年学生坚信公平正义，弘扬传统美德，传递社会正能量。
回忆起一个多月来跌宕起伏的境遇，两名助人学生均表示，真相大白后，他们心里已经没有了怨愤，现在最大的心愿是回归校园生活，全力以赴备战高考。同时，两人还表示，今后如果再遇到有人发生危难，他们仍会出手相助。不过，他们可能会采取更能够保护自己的方式，比如先报警、拍照，或者寻求多几个目击者一起前往救助。
