According to the Wall Street Journal reported this week, Dell has been presented to its employees, "the voluntary departure scheme", employees can choose whether to accept the buyout agreement of separation. The plan as of December 20.

戴尔发言人David Frink对此作出了回应，表示公司做出此项决策是为了于改善成本结构，削减成本，为今天长远投资做准备。不过该发言人未明确表示公司具体需要裁掉多少员工，以及自动离职人数不够的情况下公司是否会主动进行裁员。

业界认为，目前PC市场的持续低迷是戴尔变相裁员的根本原因。
