经多年建设，南水北调东线一期主体工程已完工，近日正式通水。中共中央总书记、国家主席、中央军委主席习近平对此作出重要指示，强调南水北调东线一期工程如期实现既定通水目标，取得重大进展，向为工程作出贡献的全体同志表示慰问和祝贺！南水北调工程是事关国计民生的战略性基础设施，希望大家总结经验，加强管理，再接再厉，确保工程运行平稳、水质稳定达标，优质高效完成后续工程任务，促进科学发展，造福人民群众。
中共中央政治局常委、国务院总理李克强作出批示，指出南水北调是优化我国水资源配置，促进经济社会可持续发展的重大战略性基础工程。东线一期实现正式通水，凝聚了参与工程建设运营的全体干部职工和技术人员的不懈努力和辛勤汗水，谨向你们表示慰问和感谢！要再接再厉，着力做好通水后的质量、环保、安全以及各项保障工作，扎实推进后续工程建设，确保清水北送，造福沿线群众，让千家万户受益。
中共中央政治局常委、国务院副总理、国务院南水北调工程建设委员会主任张高丽就贯彻落实习近平重要指示和李克强批示作出部署，要求切实做好工程维护、水质安全、水量配售和沿线环境生态保护等工作，充分发挥经济社会效益。
按照计划，这次调水过程将于12月10日结束。南水北调东线一期工程自长江下游江苏境内江都泵站引水，通过13级泵站提水北送，经山东东平湖后分别输水至德州和胶东半岛。工程干线全长1467公里，设计年抽江水量87.7亿立方米，供水范围涉及江苏、安徽、山东3省的71个县（市、区），直接受益人口约1亿人，总投资500多亿元。
南水北调工程是缓解我国北方水资源严重短缺局面的战略性基础设施。按照规划，工程分东、中、西三条线路从长江调水北送，总调水规模448亿立方米。南水北调工程分期建设，目前正在实施东、中线一期工程。中线一期工程建设进展顺利，主体工程将于今年底基本完工，明年汛后通水。
