据山西省环保厅相关统计数据显示，噪声污染目前已成为继大气污染和水污染之后的第三大污染，有近40%的环保投诉与噪声有关。噪声污染不仅会引起头昏脑涨、失眠多梦、记忆力下降，还会造成肠胃功能阻滞，使消化液分泌紊乱，对神经系统产生机能性损害。
山西省环保厅污染防治处主任白振华说，将噪声功能区发布以后，在什么区域执行什么标准，超标不超标将有明确说法，可以有效地控制超标排放噪声的污染源，切实保障人们的日常生活和身体健康。
