上述排行榜来源于麦可思、搜狐教育和学而思培优在12日联合发布的《2013中国数理化(理科)基础教育白皮书》。
这份《白皮书》通过近10万份调查问卷以及一系列相关研究，对中国公立学校文理科班现状，中学生专业选择影响因素、国内外知名院校专业设置规律及就业趋势以及各类专业毕业生的薪酬情况进行了盘点。
在专业选择方面，《白皮书》指出，37.47%的中学生将就业情况作为选择文理科的首要考虑因素；27.76%的中学生的学科选择主要参考“择校和专业选择的便利性”，相较而言，表示会根据个人兴趣选择学科的学生占16.95%。仅2.62%的学生表示会按照老师和家长的意愿学则专业。
在学习方面，78.95%的调查对象会选择参加专业的课外辅导机构，而仅有4.97%的调查对象表示会接受学校老师的单独辅导。《白皮书》指出，这显示在官方严禁学校开设各种形式补习班后，中学生课外辅导的渠道已经发生了变化。
