其实在此之前，为了保证我国探月工程二期“落”的目标圆满完成，中国航天科技集团空间技术研究院建成了巡视器室内试验场，用来进行月面环境模拟，为月球车“玉兔”的落月做足了准备。试验中，在月表形貌综合模拟试验控制室，有一项重要的试验不得不提，即建造一片面积约800平方米的火山灰地，形成一片高低起伏的“模拟月壤”。
《 法制晚报》记者独家获悉，火山灰原料就出自于吉林省辉南县的大孤山属长白山脉老岭支脉。由吉林省辉南县金峰火山矿渣场负责取矿，并由吉林省公主岭市刘房子膨润土公司加工而成。
日前，记者分别对这两地进行了探访。
取灰地
工作时间一般在4月到11月
长白山是我国著名的火山地貌，而辉南县的大孤山属长白山脉老岭支脉。
火山灰原料就出自于此，由吉林省辉南县金峰火山矿渣场负责取矿。
当天下午1点半，金峰火山矿渣场的周铁福矿长，带着法晚记者驱车前往距离县城近60公里的矿上。
车子顺着103省道行驶了大概30公里，转弯进入样子哨乡村道路，车子在结了冰的路上颠簸着徐徐前行15公里之后，乡村也已看不见，窗外的颜色只剩下雪的白与树的灰。只听见车子碾压积雪发出的“咔哧”声，时不时能感到车轮在打滑。
在记者到达时，发现矿上只有一位工作人员在守场。在微弱的灯光照射下，可以看见场子里停着大卡车和挖掘机、铲车等矿业机械，还可以模糊地看见大山的一小面被采挖过的痕迹。
“现在都停工了，我们工作的时间一般是开春4月份到11月份左右，这个时候有冻土。”该工作人员介绍，不过偶尔根据工程需要，也会在冻土采挖。
记者捧起一把火山灰，感觉并不重，发现颗粒大小还算均匀。
在回到出发点时，记者发现身上的裤腿已经被冻硬板结了。

火山灰重量轻且楞角均匀
模拟试验场对火山灰要求比较高，那么为何选择金峰火山矿渣场的火山灰呢？
周铁福告诉《法制晚报》记者，火山灰重量轻，而且看起来楞角均匀就是好的。“火山灰成色的好坏，一是看重量，二是看楞角是否均匀”。
火山灰在常温和有水的情况下可与石灰反应生成具有水硬性胶凝能力的水化物，因此磨细后还可用作水泥的混合材料及混凝土的掺和料。
“当年吉林大学的专家考察了许多地方，听专家说五大连池属于地质公园，可能不能开采火山灰。”周铁福说。火山灰是一种由火山喷发而形成的天然轻骨料，具有多孔、轻质、导热系数小，颗粒均匀等性质，分布在我镇境内几个火山口附近，约2亿立方米，适应大批量开采或建设大型建筑材料厂。
“吉林大学离我们近，加工厂在公主岭也离我们不远。”周铁福说，吉林大学的专家，可能考虑火山灰成色、环境、还有交通等因素，最终用了他们的火山灰。
周铁福告诉法晚记者，吉林大学共来取过两次火山灰，第一次好像比较多，在2011年用大卡车拉走了1000吨左右，随后2012年又弄了几百吨。

周铁福还记得，一开始的时候找到一家小工厂来加工火山灰，但是没有达到标准。
随后经过挑选，最终选择了公主岭刘房子膨润土公司来加工。

从外面看，厂房显得并不是特别新，大门的左侧黄岗岩石上印着“刘房子膨润土公司”。
该公司共有两个厂区，一厂区外堆着微绿色的膨润土块，以及加工之后打包好的成品，铲车和运输拖拉机穿梭在各个厂区。

一厂房往南，就是职工宿舍，再往南就是几条铁路线，据介绍这几条铁路是该公司的专用线。一厂区西侧是二厂区，该厂区有四个屋子，有的厂房安装有烘干机，有的安装有碎颗粒机及磨机和搅拌机。
对于“这个公司是否加工火山灰”这个问题，公司附近的居民称并不清楚，“不知道呢，反正公司每天门口都有车经过，不是拉煤的就是拉膨润土的。”
记者询问在场的好几个工人，他们表示也并不清楚火山灰加工的事情。
