5G通信技术的传输速度将是目前4G的1000倍。韩国未来创造科学部正在制定目标，争取在2020年获得全球移动通信设备市场20%份额，国际标准专利竞争力位居全球第一。在2015年前实现pre-5G的技术展示，在2018年进行试验测试，到2020年在全球最先实现5G商用服务。

据了解，韩国未来创造科学部将组建以移动通信专家为中心的5G战略企划团体，从5G服务发掘，标准化合作和全球性互助、推进挑战性研发、营造智能生态系统四个方面制定详细的战略。

据公开资料显示，2013年6月28日，中国工业和信息化部与韩国未来创造科学部在京召开了中韩5G交流会，双方签署了《中韩5G合作谅解备忘录》。
