据了解，为搭建宗教界爱国主义教育的新平台，国家宗教局从2011年启动宗教界爱国主义教育基地评选命名工作。继2011年第一批命名37处场所后，国家宗教局部署开展了第二批评选命名工作。经过严格审核、征求意见、网站公示，从各地推荐的198处宗教活动场所中确定命名北京市白云观等24处场所为第二批宗教界爱国主义教育基地。
第二批宗教界爱国主义教育基地中，河北省献县本斋清真寺、山东省临沂市兰山路天主堂、吉林省长春市西五马路基督教堂等场所，新中国成立前支持中国革命，在与中国共产党同心同德、团结合作、共同奋斗方面有突出事迹。陕西省西安市大慈恩寺、江苏省扬州市大明寺、北京市白云观等场所历史悠久，在推动中华优秀文化传承弘扬或增强中华文化国际影响力方面作出过突出贡献。
国家宗教局局长王作安表示，评选命名第二批宗教界爱国主义教育基地，对于宗教界深入广泛地开展爱国主义教育，激发宗教界的爱国热情、弘扬爱国爱教的优秀传统，弘扬中华传统文化，传递社会正能量，增强民族自尊心和自豪感，团结和凝聚宗教界为实现中华民族伟大复兴的中国梦贡献智慧和力量具有重要意义。
