Released from open source code or code in access to benefits is immeasurable. It is difficult to imagine in today's programming world, if there are no free class library, code snippets and tutorials, that will bring trouble. But why so worried about their code that most developers released it? On this question, there is no specific standard answers, referred to in the following four reasons are mainly represent the views of those most opposed to the code released:

1. my code is not good enough

This is the most common response, perhaps out of humble approach. Almost every published code developers will have felt that way from the start. For developers, software is a very personalized form of expression capabilities. A variety of programmes to address the problem, but your choice of solutions can represent your personality and skills.

From another perspective, how many developers have not read other people's code? How many developers don't learn from other people's code base? Estimated that most developers I've been looking at other people's code to improve code procedures. Sometimes when you're looking at someone else's code, and code has a problem or solution is found invalid, you might think that the developers must be stupid! Maybe you intentions to remind developers how to modify this, and saves a lot of time for him, but it turns out you get may even have a thank you. Which is probably why most developers don't want to open your own code, is afraid of being pointed out the error, I felt embarrassed. In fact, do their part to get the job done, provided for those who need code to your code, help people reap the benefits in the program development process, most of the people will thank you.

2. don't want others criticized his software program

Indeed, this is another natural response. Now the Internet is like a melting pot, what kind of developer, likes to hide the use of anonymous, some programmers like to secretly get some tricks. Many developers now quality is not very high, and always likes to make everything look like a race, as others had little success, he started in a different way where to pick, ask defects, say making sarcastic comments. Here I have to say, read foreign-language Web sites estimated would feel that way: the comments below the article content is essentially clean, positive, unlike in domestic websites, others articles as salvos of the war. However this may be caused by environment. As a result, some programmers in this environment has to become the defensive awareness, more wayward, at the same time, more intense self-awareness.

But the fact is that, as a programmer, there must be able to accept criticism of our hearts. At the same time, also need to be able to get rid of psychological baggage, see criticism as a motivation. In other words, the constructive criticism to help developers grow rapidly, save time to experience more of the lessons.

3. concerning security issues

Security is indeed events that cannot be ignored, any need to release something we have to consider whether he would expose sensitive information or access protocols, and so on. If you think we're talking about things and, if security or encryption of sensitive data, you suggested here earlier open source as much as possible in the development process. In this way, security out of your design, if your method is weak, and will certainly have some expertise in a wide range of experts to help you resolve the problem: identify vulnerabilities in the programs as soon as possible, or you didn't notice the error.

Finally, the summary provided by others ways, what you get is a safe final product. Any security measure, provided it can be about outsiders easily crack the code is not a security code. Can think about OAuth 2 security cases, its open design and coding is drawing on external and security methods.

4. embrace their technology ideas

Most probably right now the online world is not very trusting, so that public concerns in this area reached absurd heights. Like some people voice to say: I had a big great idea you wanted to know? But there is no NDA (nondisclosure agreement), I won't tell you. In fact, nobody is going to steal your ideas, things you do may already exist, or who have started on it (or even open source).

Here does not suggest that you put the entire project development plan and overall business model for open source. Here is a suggestion only will be able to share and better use of open source components and class libraries. Here an example of Square, Square is a fast-growing and very valuable company, it has made public a huge code base. Outsider that would impede its progress on the core business, however, it has published specific code is not reusable. Square release code for many people, it improved the quality of Android and iOS software. In return, developers from around the world contributed class library improvements will be free of charge for Square.

Conclusion

Will go public with their own code sounds very scary, in fact, you get much more benefits than what they have lost. People look at your code, your code will be much better than before they were seen, will have improved your ability to accept criticism, and then anyone can get a lot of benefit from your sharing processes, and inspiration.

Writer Matthew Mombrea is the founder of Cypress North, software engineer, technology enthusiast, this article describes four reasons why developers fear released the code. Published code is not a bad thing, can not only promote exchanges, to improve the developer's personal skills, but also to improve software quality.
