此外，记者还了解到，中国已经具备火星探测能力，是否探测、何时探测，取决于国家财力和政策的支持。吴伟仁说：“我们国家对卫星、月球探测、火星探测都比较成体系，比较综合考虑，每一步都为下一步打基础，我们都比较连贯，我们探月是绕、落、回，无人探测成功之后有人探测可以开始，每一步打坚实的基础。我们不是说现在才有探火星的能力，而是嫦娥一、二号成功，我们就有探火星的能力了，这是没有问题的。 ”
