有家难回荒弃新房租住简陋民房
商丘市睢阳区北部不足30平米的两间门面房，分别被当成了厨房和卧室，月租三百。

记者问：“为啥不在柘城县城住，要到商丘市这么远？”
“柘城很多人因为我的错案判了刑，离远点安全些。”赵作海接着说。
他垂着头，顶上一寸来长的白发，眉头微皱，双眼有些发直。大多数时候，他都在听身旁的妻子讲话，偶尔补充两句，嗓音低沉，语速极快。
而在40公里外的商丘市柘城县老王集镇赵楼村，赵作海家的两扇红色铁门正被一把生锈的铁锁把守。因为长期无人居住，院子的地砖上竟生出薄薄一层青苔。
这还是当初的赵作海吗？
2010年5月，赵作海背负的“故意杀人案”，被河南高院认定为错案。服刑11年的他被无罪释放。紧跟着，他领到了国家赔偿和困难补助金65万元。
赵作海的命运随之改变。
心愿了却“先给大儿子娶媳妇”
因自家房屋年久失修，赵作海释放后最先回到了妹妹家。
在妹夫余方新等人的帮助下，他将65万元存入银行。当地政府用20天为他建起了一幢新房。在旁人眼中，赵作海从此翻了身。
“先给大儿子娶媳妇”，是赵作海的头等大事，也是他当时就这65万元的唯一规划。
2010年7月17日，释放后的第三个月，他的大儿子赵西良在鞭炮声中将媳妇抱回了家。
赵作海说，这场婚礼他花费近10万元，其中8万是彩礼钱。随后他又拿出两三万元为儿子盖新楼房。长子成家，赵作海心愿已了。
可他并不知道，剩下的50多万元，并不能让他过上安宁的生活。
招致怨恨“有钱就看不起别人”
如何应对前来借钱的亲戚？赵作海为此头疼不已。
与赵作海家斜对门的是他的叔叔赵振举。2010年4月，被赵作海“杀害”的村民赵振晌突然回到赵楼村，赵振举随即报警。
“赵振举认为这是他的功劳，问我要5万元。我给了他3000元。”赵作海说，除过赵振举很多村民也都看到了赵振晌回村。争取赔偿金的时候，赵振举也没有出什么力。叔侄为此闹僵。
“他有了钱之后就看不起别人了。”说起赵作海，赵振举有些无奈，“他和其他亲戚都中断联络了，我没要过他一分钱。”
现在不与赵作海来往的，还有妹妹一家。
赵作海回忆，自己刚被释放后回到妹妹家时，因为自己没文化，记者采访往往要先联系妹夫余方新。
“余方新觉得自己出力了，想要两万元还贷款，我给了他5000元，他嫌少，说还不够自己的手机费，把我气得呀！”赵作海说。
而面对《法制晚报》记者，余方新先是表示自己“一分钱也没拿过”，而后又改口称“这5000元是我办事花的钱，赵作海自己知道”。
面对亲友伸来的手，赵作海有自己的一套理解：“借钱我给你，可什么时候会还我？借钱必然交友，可要债却结怨头。”
他把手一挥：“没有必要！”
争夺赔款 儿子擅自取走14万
有了钱，赵作海也想有个伴。
李素兰是在赵作海释放十多天后找上门来的。赵作海案传开之后，每天都有人上门找赵作海维权，李素兰正是其中一员。
赵作海随后与李素兰生活在了一起。2011年4月，离婚后的他与李素兰领了结婚证。婚后，李素兰常与大儿媳发生争吵。赵作海起初倒很淡然：“两个新媳妇，谁服谁啊？”
但接下来发生的事很快令他始料未及。赵作海说，或许是担心李素兰从此控制住了剩余的钱，长子赵西良趁自己离家，从存折中取走了14万元，而后离家打工。
等赵作海知晓此事，已是半年之后。
他当即病倒，半个月都无法下床走路。他躺在床上，想起自己的遭遇：“儿子肯定不会还钱了，如果报警，儿子又要坐几年牢，儿媳妇到时也没了，结婚花的十几万不就打了水漂？”
而赵西良当时已生下一子，赵作海自我安慰：“就当花钱买了个孙子吧。”
赵作海虽然咽下了这口气，但此后父子关系可想而知。
亲人反目“亲戚也不是亲戚了”
儿子取款的事，加剧了赵作海夫妇与妹夫的怨愤。
在李素兰看来，是余方新给赵西良说了密码，14万才被取走。赵作海为此不再与妹妹和余方新往来。
而余方新则表示委屈，他说：“赵作海拿到赔偿款后，是十多个人一起去存的。”与妹妹关系的恶化，直接导致了赵作海与两个儿子的疏离，“我和妹夫闹得不好之后，他们再没给我来过电话。”
孩子们现在在做啥？在哪家单位？赵作海一概不知，他的了解仅限于：“老大在济南，老二在北京，老三在南京。女儿从来没来看过我。”
“我离家的时候，孩子们当时都还小，十多年过去了，彼此没什么感情。”说起儿女们的远离，赵作海的声音突然有些颤抖。
亲属中唯一还与赵作海往来的，是柘城县起台镇杨大庄村的67岁的姐姐赵作兰。但因为相距较远，赵作海与姐姐的走动也并不频繁，他最近一次见到姐姐还是4个月前。
或许是因为上了年岁，赵作海竟一时想不起姐姐的名字，喃喃说道：“我只知道她儿子的名字。”
“亲戚也不是亲戚了，邻居也不是邻居了。”赵作海感叹。
生意折本“我与社会脱节了”
拿着剩下的30多万元，李素兰的一位老乡向赵作海提议，让他跟自己去宁夏卖门窗。
在宁夏，赵作海拿出15万“投资”。
但他并没有见到什么所谓的门窗，而是被告知做“传销”更挣钱。
“啥叫传销啊？”赵作海说，这是他第一次听到“传销”这个词，脱离社会生活11年，已有太多的新事物让他感到陌生。
“投资”失败，赵作海无奈回村。没多久，李素兰又与儿媳发生了矛盾。赵作海索性带着李素兰搬到了商丘市。
在商丘，夫妇俩又产生了转包旅社的想法，“在家里坐吃山空，不如做点正经生意，维持生活。”
赵作海又拿出2.8万元，盘下了一家位于商丘市归德路的旅社，水电费根据实际用量结算。旅社共有十多间房，内设床铺、被褥、风扇和电视。双人间30元一晚。
赵作海还在旅社门口支起一个烟柜，卖些香烟和零食。
在赵作海看来，旅社这样的条件已属不错，加之价格低廉，生意理应不错。但现实却给了他当头一棒，除春运时的入住率还算说得过去，整个夏天几乎无人入住，营业额甚至连水电费都不够。
“现在的人住宿都讲究空调、洗浴和网络。”赵作海一声长叹，说他在监狱待太久，已看不懂这个社会。
含糊投资“收不回成本就身无分文”
生意的惨淡还并非赵作海最糟的境遇。
今年夏天，一名中年男子从旅社拿了根冰棍却不肯付钱，赵作海和他理论起来。
“男子对我说‘吃你个冰棍，不给钱怎么样’，然后把我推倒在地。”赵作海说，自己为此住了院，后来在北京一家律师事务所的帮助下，对方才赔了5000元。
说到这，赵作海摇摇头：“住院花了六千，追回来赔偿五千，也差不多了。”
赵作海回忆，在此之前有民警找过自己，因为不会上网，旅社内缺乏联网系统，存在住入犯罪嫌疑人的潜在风险。
接连的挫折，让赵作海夫妇不得不重新打量自己的生意。在经营了11个月后，旅社最终关张。两口子大体一算，又赔了两万多。
在此之后，受朋友闵凡玉的邀请，夫妇俩赴山东费县，在闵凡玉承包的农家乐里帮忙。在赵作海向当年对自己刑讯逼供的警察索赔时，闵凡玉曾担任赵作海的代理人。
因为李素兰是回民，不适应当地的生活，只在农家乐帮了一个月忙，赵作海夫妇又返回了河南商丘。临走前，赵作海用了三年的黑白屏幕手机坏掉了，闵凡玉为表感谢，分别送给赵作海和李素兰一部智能手机和彩屏翻盖手机。
回到商丘之后，赵作海和李素兰在商丘市睢阳区租住下来。在朋友的帮助下，李素兰进入一家投资公司工作。

李素兰每天上班之后，公园、鱼塘和城墙根，都成为赵作海独自散步和打发时间的场所。他发现城墙根下有野生枸杞，就经常独自提着袋子一摘就是半天，还兴奋地告诉《法制晚报》记者：“这枸杞是野生的，对身体大有好处。”
尽管邻居们都知道这里住着赵作海，但他本人却不轻易和邻居们接触。赵作海如今多了一丝危机：“我在这里租房，是人家的地盘，说不好了，招惹是非。”
就连走在街上被人认出，他也会故意反问：“你是不是认错人了？”
“国家给了赵作海赔偿，却无法替赵作海对生活做出合理的规划，最终依然挽救不了他的生活。”谈及朋友赵作海的晚年，闵凡玉表示了自己的忧虑。在闵凡玉看来，如果当初有关部门能给赵作海安排一个力所能及的工作，每月挣个一两千元，他的境遇或许就不会如此。
2013年11月17日晚7时，赵作海回到家，拧亮了屋里那盏唯一能够照明的13瓦的节能灯，他与李素兰准备就此休息。
而在屋外，巷子里简陋KTV里的音乐才刚刚响起，热火朝天。

事件背景：
1999年，赵作海因同村赵振晌失踪后发现一具无头尸体而被拘留。2002年商丘中院以故意杀人罪判其死刑，缓刑2年。2010年4月，赵振晌回到村中。2010年5月，河南高院认定该案系一起错案，宣告赵作海无罪。赵作海随之获国家赔偿及生活困难补助65万元。
