Canada British Colombia University researchers tracked over time the accumulation of scientific data, found that 80% data was lost due to outdated storage device. On a paper published in the journal Current Biology. They randomly chose 516 papers published between 1991 to 2011, and then try to collect their raw research data.

Turns out that all data sets published expose after two years, but the chances of access to these data an annual decline of 17%. Researchers point out that the data generated by publicly funded papers many of which are irreplaceable, and many data sets to repeat a very expensive and unfortunately loss of valuable data. Researchers recommended that research data is uploaded to a public records office to save.
