2008年底，青理东由四川省巴中市南江县县委书记调任中共阿坝州委委员、常委，兼任中共汶川县委书记后，他的名字频频出现在全国各大媒体。
彼时，震后汶川满目疮痍，青理东上任后接受媒体采访时说，作为一个新任县委书记，办公室里他挂了一张画，罗中立的《父亲》。“不同的人看到的感受不同……我是农民儿子，更是带领老百姓致富的书记，所以走到办公室的第一件事，就是看一看《父亲》，然后想一想，我今天做了些啥，我还要做啥。”
