Wang Yi in the South China Sea issue should be “four respect“

On September 7, 2014, Foreign Affairs and strategic dialogue was held in Sydney, Australia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi said in the South China Sea issue should be of "four respects".

First, we should respect the facts of history. The part over the Nansha Islands sovereignty dispute is a problem left over by history and properly handle this issue should first understand the true history of longitude and the merits, in order to be objective and impartial.

Second, we must respect the rules of international law. China is always committed to upholding international law and the norms governing international relations and the practitioner. Whether it is traditional to solve territorial disputes in international law, or dealing with Convention on sea rights and interests, China will continue to fulfill its due responsibilities and obligations.

Direct dialogue between the three was to respect the consultation. This is dealing with disputes among States in the international common practice, are consistent with the spirit of international law, but also clear provisions in the Declaration on the conduct of parties in the South China Sea, has been proven to be most effective and feasible way to solve the South China Sea dispute. China is not in favor of another set.

Four is to respect efforts to jointly safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea between China and ASEAN. China and ASEAN are fully capable of maintaining peace, stability and freedom of navigation in the South China Sea, understands the legitimate concerns of our countries outside, but it is also hoped that foreign countries in the South China Sea issue and play a constructive role and help rather than chaos.
