华为对于知识产权的重视和长期坚持自主研发，源于进军国际市场的切肤之痛。2000年左右，正式大规模进军海外市场的华为，刚走出国门，就遇上蜂拥而至找上门来收取专利费的主流通讯厂商。
“开出的价码大约都是我们每年收入的1%到7%不等，要知道这个行业的公司不是一家两家，每家公司都要这个数字，我们实际上是没有办法经营下去的。所以我们知道创新、专利就是走向全球市场的核心竞争力。”华为企业业务总裁阎力大在“铸重器、赢未来”主题论坛上表示。
