胡萨、梅和阿杨在声明中说道，“该工具可在Facebook上帮助更多的人连接他们说别的语言的朋友，为此我们感到很兴奋。”

该多语言功能是Facebook本周公布的一系列产品变动的一部分。该社交网络服务早前还表示，它将在动态消息（News Feeds）中增加来自亲朋好友的帖子比重，同时也将允许用户创建个人项目来为非盈利组织筹资。

微软和谷歌均已对各自的翻译服务进行强化。微软去年推出了面向Windows系统的Skype Translator翻译工具，该服务支持六种语言（英语、法语、德语、意大利语、普通话和西班牙语）的实时对话翻译。与此同时，谷歌的Google Translate让用户只需要点击一下它就能在任何应用当中翻译文本。
