Facebook for poverty-stricken areas connected to the Internet, United States people have something to say-Facebook, Zuckerberg-IT information

Beijing time on July 7, Facebook released OpenCellular, an open source wireless access platform for providing network services in the remote areas of the world.

To make surprise is that the United States people have unlimited Internet access!

One Netizen wrote in the news: OpenCellular in the United States use it? United States many residents do not have access to the Internet, or can "dial up" (believe it or not!! )

Many people shout agrees, well, small series are letters.

All in all, OpenCellular to the benefit of remote areas, but this is not Facebook PR once public projects, but part of Facebook connect programme to the world.

As early as 2013, Zuckerberg personally wrote "Internet access is a fundamental human right" (a Human Right Is Connectivity?) article, said only 2.7 billion people can now use the Internet, the 1/3,Facebook let the world network of the world's population, and issued a "block plan", including the three important goals:

? More efficient data transmission, Internet access becomes cheaper

? Improve the efficiency of app and user experience, using less data

? Develop new mode of Internet access, corporate Internet access

It looks like the Government work report described General Grand text, Zuckerberg is not talking big, right?

World Network, Zuckerberg is not bragging

"Let the world network" can be described as heroic, but Facebook is hard to do, has carried out a series of projects. 2013 Facebook joining Ericsson, Nokia, Qualcomm, Samsung and other companies Internet.org Alliance, the Coalition's goal is to make the world's poorest regions is available on the Internet, and received the support of the United Nations.

2014 Facebook Connectivity laboratory was founded and launched its first large-scale unmanned aerial vehicle project, is the very famous "Aquila" solar-powered UAV designed to wireless laser communication, transmission networks, effectively sending high-speed Internet to areas in need of cable Internet access.

The next big move is the OpenCellular, corresponding to the "block plan" in the third objective: develop new Internet models, and were joined by other enterprises, with Internet access. Therefore, this project has these features: easy to install, robust, open source, cheaper.

From: Facebook's official website

OpenCellular very much like a dinner plate, can be installed on a pole, can also be installed in the trees. It is composed of two subsystems: a system responsible for common functions and ordinary base-band calculation, one system is responsible for signal transmission, which will carry out some degree of modularity.

In addition, OpenCellular will be installed in areas with difficult conditions, industrial and mechanical design goal is to make sure that it is strong enough, can withstand high winds and extreme temperatures, and also ensuring that the compact, a person will be able to complete the installation.

Facebook will OpenCellular open source hardware design, firmware and software, telecommunication operators, enterprises, researchers and equipment manufacturers can put OpenCellular into the version you want.

Now OpenCellular is still in the testing and development stages, did not disclose a price, but keep the cost down is one of the most important goals of this project.

Why is caught up in "world network"?

Facebook has a huge social networking Kingdom, include Instagram, Whatsapp, Messenger, VR also is seen as the next-generation computing platform company Oculus. Facebook is such a confident of attracting each and every potential user, but for the people in those areas with no Internet, Facebook can't do anything.

So in order to get to those users, Facebook has done the most radical thing: network services available to them.

Zuckerberg also said: "this is not entirely altruistic behavior, when we get more connections, we can also benefit. ”

The market share of the billions of people, the Giants are bound to fight!

Google launched in 2013 a similar "Project Loon", between 10km to 20km and hot air balloon floating in the air, a hot-air balloon carrying the signal transceiver for wireless network, providing Internet access services for ground.

A profound impact on the world of the Internet business, health care, education, social security and other economic chain, has nearly saturated the developed regions, remote areas still in the infancy of the Internet represents a huge potential market.

Just as Harry Mccracken reviews "of such efforts is the altruism of the short-term and long-term mix of capitalism".

(Is Connectivity a Human Right?)
