只不过，YouTube Go却是专门面向印度用户的。
按照Johanna Wright在博客中的说法，YouTube Go的诞生是源于他在印度旅行的一次经历；因为2G网络状况不好，他的朋友无法给他播放YouTube上的视频。
但实际上，YouTube看重的应该是印度市场的巨大用户数量和未来几年的用户增长潜力。目前印度是世界上人口数量排名第二的国家，在13亿人口中只有3.75亿网民，其中3.03亿的网民都是通过智能手机来上网的。

为了解决YouTube视频因为网络而播放不流畅的问题，早在2014年12月，Google就已经在印度、菲律宾、印度尼西亚三个国家的YouTube上添加了离线视频观看功能。
今年7月，Google又对YouTube的离线视频功能进行了优化，使其更加智能，能够在夜间自动下载用户选中的视频。

此外，Google还在2015年9月宣布了一项计划，将在印度的四百个火车站提供免费的WiFi上网服务。目前，这项计划已经得到了初步实施，包括孟买火车站在内的10个印度火车站已经用上了Google提供的免费WiFi。
按照Google的长远规划，未来几年内免费WiFi将会覆盖印度所有的火车站。
