记者：魔方是一部分人童年的梦魇，因为玩不好，曾经很怀疑自己的智商。魔方水平高低是不是与智商有关?
鲁比克：IQ测试也好，魔方测试也好，测试的只是一种分数，并不意味着一切。有些人在学校里非常棒，在社会中却并不成功，有些人在学校里是问题儿童，在社会上却非常成功，因为在学校的测验和你在真实生活中所要完成的任务不一样。可以用魔方来作为一种特殊能力的测试，但你要明白这种特殊能力是什么。
可以向别人请教如何解决魔方，也可以自己独立完成，后者是我鼓励的。面对同一项测试，我们经常看到两类人，一类直接翻到书后面寻找答案，然后再做题，一类人就喜欢测试自己，自己去尝试、思考，再检查。魔方已经存在40多年，很多人都需要别人的帮助才能够解开，有人因为各种原因无法解决魔方。你需要有很强烈的意愿并为之努力，这当然比较辛苦，如果你能够自己发现并解决问题的话，那就是内化的能力，能够用解开这次难题的经验用于其他事物上。因此，更有价值的不仅是一个答案，而是寻求到解决问题的方法。
记者：魔方测试的究竟是怎样的一种能力？
鲁比克：第一，在难题面前继续学习的能力。第二，对于空间的定向，或者说，对于空间的想像能力。人的空间感不一样，比如初到一个陌生的地方，有人靠一张地图就能轻易地找到想去的地方，有人找方向就比较困难。另一方面，你带人走过一个地方，有人很快就能记住下次再来，有些人就会转错方向。解决魔方的过程中，记忆力也非常重要，孩子的记忆力比成年人要好。还有特别重要的是，动手能力，手部控制能力达到的精细程度不一样，有的人不用看，手上的工作都能完成。

记者：从小到大我一直玩魔方，但第一次知道鲁比克牌魔方，你怎么看待这里反映出的版权问题？
鲁比克：那是一个非常宽泛和复杂的问题。如果你面临这样的问题，说明你很幸运，因为如果你的产品不成功，就不会产生这样的问题，越成功，这个问题就会越大。知识产权非常特别，比如写作，文章印出来就是你的，你如果发现别人剽窃你可以起诉，而产品和科学的发明就不太一样。一个工程师发明了魔方这样的结构、里面结构的元素，如果魔方是原创的，你可以申请专利，但也非常棘手，这意味着你必须在每个国家申请专利，并支付申请专利的费用。在刚开始时，成本非常高，需要大量资金，这也是为什么许多人去找大公司，希望公司能够帮助他们解决这个问题，但问题是，自己的专利你自己都无法保护，又如何让公司来保护你。所以这是个很难的问题。我很高兴我名下的魔方售出量很大，不是我名下的魔方也非常多，这也意味着许多孩子可以玩到魔方，未尝不是一件好事。

记者：你是一位雕塑家，是什么给你灵感发明了魔方？
鲁比克：灵感取决于我们看到什么，看到表面之下隐藏了什么，而且这也取决于兴趣。关于这个问题，我有很多答案，来自自然，来自宇宙。比如宇宙的尺度，在宏观和微观上，宇宙都没有边界，而组成宏观与微观的元素又是类似的，这非常有趣。我的灵感也来源于过去的经历，兴趣爱好，比如我特别喜欢阅读、解谜，我还喜欢数学。对于我来说，发明魔方是很幸运的。我觉得问题并不代表错误，问题的产生是自然的一部分，问题提供了一个机会，如果能够成功地把问题解开，那就能够顺利地应对这件事。
记者：魔方给很多艺术带来了影响和改变，比如广告、电影、设计，你怎么看这个问题？
鲁比克：艺术是什么本身就是一个非常有趣的问题，艺术就是超越自身的存在。从这个角度来说，魔方并不仅仅是魔方，如果魔方没有面前使用的这个人，魔方就什么都不是。使用者赋予了魔方生命，人和魔方的互动赋予了魔方生命。这个过程当中，转动魔方时，魔方也转动了你，影响是一个双向的过程。魔方本身是个未完成的状态，需要人来完成这个谜题。魔方就像一张白纸，可以写写画画，创造出自己的东西。
