  央广网北京1月17日消息(记者潘毅 张四清)据中国之声《新闻纵横》报道,近些年,雾霾一直是困扰中国大部分地区的难题。很多人都在追问雾霾到底是怎么形成的。如今,这个问题就可以通过中国又一重大科技突破——“大连光源”解决。


  近日,世界上最亮的极紫外光源、由中国自行研制的总长100米的自由电子激光装置——“大连光源”发出了世界上最强的极紫外自由电子激光脉冲,它就像一台高速摄像机,给这大千世界拍摄“慢动作”电影。那么,它到底是怎么观测到雾霾的形成过程的呢?又会给我们的生活带来什么改变呢?


  臭氧层空洞的形成涉及到大气上层臭氧分子的淬灭机制,雾霾的形成涉及到污染物分子聚集过程,这些现象本质上都是原子和分子过程,但是,要控制或利用这些物理和化学过程,我们就需要在实验室里研究这些过程所涉及到的原子和分子的反应机制,因此就需要精确并且高灵敏度地探测所涉及到原子和分子。极紫外波段自由电子激光,就是科学家探索物质世界奥秘的最得心应手的武器。


  大连化学物理研究所副所长、中国科学院院士杨学明介绍,如果用这种光源,我们可以更好地来研究很多过程,包括分子聚集的过程,大气里雾霾产生的过程实际上就是一个分子聚集的过程。


  在科学研究、先进技术、国防科技发展中,自由电子激光都有着重要的应用前景,在前沿科学研究中也发挥着越来越重要的作用,特别是近十年来,自由电子激光技术的发展和突破为探索未知物质世界、发现新科学规律、实现技术变革提供了前所未有的研究工具。


  杨学明举例说,“比如说,在我们所里我们做很多催化的过程研究,我们可以利用这个光源来探索催化过程,可以更清楚地了解这些催化过程里产生了哪些中间过程,这个过程到底是怎么样发生的。这样有助于我们未来设计更好的催化剂。


  “大连光源”是中国第一台大型自由电子激光科学研究用户装置,是当今世界上唯一运行在极紫外波段的自由电子激光装置,也是世界上最亮的极紫外光源。它身怀两大绝技,一是亮,二是发出亮光的时间短。杨学明表示,这正是它能够发挥作用的关键,“一个光源亮的话,可以让我们对很多物质世界包括微观世界看得更清楚,亮光时间短可以看很多非常快的过程,包括很多飞秒皮秒的过程,比如说像白炽灯、手电筒,我们看不到时间的变化,光的亮度跟时间的超短,对我们这个装置来说是非常之重要的,对未来科学研究来讲也是非常重要的。”


  我们常说“一眨眼的功夫”,如果把眨一下眼的时间定义为一秒的话,那么1飞秒只有1秒的一千万亿分之一,而1皮秒只有一万亿分之一秒。杨学明解释说,这个装置发出的光源,就相当于照相机里一个很快的快门,通过连续的拍摄,来呈现这个超快的物理过程和化学反应的动态过程。“我们这个世界实质上是一个动态的世界,无论是化学反应也好,物理过程也好,很多都是在动态变化的,所以我们在理解这个世界时,我们不能只看照片,我们要理解这个动态的过程,而且要看得越清楚,越好,需要很亮的光源,很短的脉冲光源,来看这些物理化学生物大气一些过程。”


  对此,中国科学院上海应用物理研究所所长赵振堂进一步解释说,“形象的说,它可以使我们的科学家给分子运动拍电影,这样科学家就可以掌握整个物质内部结构规律,一定能够把整个过程给反映出来,否则慢了话只能看到一开头和一个结束阶段,你就不知道中间到底发生了什么,要想应用好的话必须要知道中间是怎么变化过来的。”


  据了解,“大连光源”投入使用后,将面向全世界的科学家开放,共同探索物质世界的奥秘。赵振堂指出,中国率先建成这一先进光源意义非凡,“掌握规律之后可以为今后科技的发展提供更多的方式和办法。这也就是在科技前沿取得突破的一个重要基础。因而也就成为了各国科技竞争要抢占的山头。”


  中国科学院副院长王恩哥表示,极紫外电子激光装置也就是“大连光源”的建设,是中国科学院乃至中国的又一项具有极高显示度的重大科技成果,装置中90%的设备均由中国研发,标志着中国在这一领域占据了世界领先地位,为中国未来发展更新一代的高重复频率极紫外自由电子激光打下了坚实的基础。“大连光源”的建成出光,成为中国大科学工程的又一成功范例,也必将大大促进中国在能源、化学、物理、生物、材料、大气雾霾、光刻等多个重要领域研究水平的提升,为中国的科技事业注入新的活力。
