　　1月20日上午，两只活泼可爱的狮虎狮兽在海南热带野生动植物园与市民游客见面。据园方介绍，这两只狮虎狮兽是一只非洲雄狮和一只雌性虎狮兽的爱情结晶。这是继该园成功繁育出狮虎兽、虎狮兽后的又一生殖奇迹。这改变了虎狮兽通常被认为是不能生育的说法，在生物学、遗传学等方面有着很重要的研究价值。

　　据了解，两只狮虎狮兽的爸爸妈妈今年6岁，都是于2011年出生在海南热带野生动植物园。2014年开始，园区饲养员多次观察发现，同在一个园区里饲养的一只雄狮“壮壮”和一只雌性虎狮兽“丽丽”关系亲密，并有交配行为。2016年3月初，虎狮兽成功受孕，经过110天的孕期后，狮虎兽于2016年6月24日早上顺利产下了两只雌性的狮虎狮兽。

　　生下小狮虎狮兽后，园区饲养员发现这只狮虎兽母性很强，主动哺育这两只小家伙吃母乳和辅食。如今，这两只狮虎狮兽已有半岁，各方面状况良好而稳定。海南热带野生动植物园决定即日起公开展示这对狮虎狮兽，市民游客可在园区通过特别的方式观看。同时，也向社会征集名字。

　　据了解，自然界中老虎与狮子各有天性，相互间并不亲近，但在人工饲养的环境下，虎、狮却可以交配受孕，雄狮和母虎交配后生出的叫“狮虎兽”，而雄虎和雌狮交配后生出的叫“虎狮兽”。狮、虎之间受孕的成功率仅为1%- 2%，而成活率仅有50万分之一。因此，狮虎兽，虎狮兽曾被认为不具有生育能力。

　　2005年5月2日，海南热带野生动植物园成功繁殖出了由公狮小二黑与母虎欢欢生育的狮虎兽兄妹“平平”、“安安”并存活至今。此后的5年中，海南热带野生动植物园先后有11只狮虎兽和6只虎狮兽繁殖成功，成为了世界上繁殖狮虎兽最多的动物园。
