丽江打人事件尽管发生在两个多月前，但是引发舆论关注，却是源于两天前受害人董女士的一条微博。
董女士在微博中讲述了去年11月11日她和朋友在丽江旅游时的遭遇，当时董女士和另外两个朋友在丽江古城的一家烧烤屋吃饭，期间与一群男子发生言语冲突。随后，遭到这群男子殴打。施暴者还拿碎酒瓶划伤董女士的脸部，并在拍摄视频威胁后扬长而去。
微博中，董女士展示了自己的伤情：从鼻梁骨到嘴角都缝了针，身上也有多处血迹。董女士声称自己在报案过程中遭到了不公正对待，呼吁网络还她公道。
微博发出后，两天时间内的阅读量将近2亿，5万网友参与讨论。25日，云南警方通过官微通报此案称“目前，案件事实清楚，主要嫌疑人已被警方控制，将根据董某的伤情鉴定结果依法办理案件。”
不过，董女士在接受看看新闻knews采访时表示，律师告诉她，警方立案后应该交给她一份涉案回执单，但一直她没有收到。因此，警方是否已有立案？是如何定义案件的？目前她还不得而知。

浙江金华人民警察学校教授傅跃建告诉看看新闻knews，伤害行为的结果决定了案件的轻重，也决定了当事人责任的大小。根据《人体损伤程度鉴定标准》，对涉嫌毁坏他人容貌的案件，根据综合伤口面积、形成伤疤的状况、器官功能的损坏情况来决定等级。毁容案件属于重伤结果的一种，为了防止因治疗出现伤势减轻或加重的情形，因此在司法实践中往往要90天或者3到6个月以后，在治疗后伤势稳定了再做鉴定，方能确保案件的客观公正。傅跃建说，在本案中警方上门来做的这种伤情鉴定是一种初步鉴定，在司法实践中，对当事人采取强制措施以后，检察机关会提出要求警方提供初步伤情鉴定，也属正常。在傅跃建看来，当地警方目前比较重视董女士的案件，可能想尽快推进处理。
随着丽江打人事件的不断发酵，丽江治安状况也引起了网友的普遍担忧， 2014年12月，一位新疆女游客因为不愿意在拉市海景区马场起码消费，被十多个工作人员围殴，造成其手掌骨折及脑震荡。2016年初，又一次发生“丽江骑马再起冲突，女游客被十多名壮汉围殴”的事件。而这次董女士被打事件，再次给丽江这座旅游城市敲响了警钟。
25号当天，丽江古城宣传部通过微博发声，表示丽江打人抢劫事件已经引起当地政府的高度重视，要求由公安机关立即对网贴反映的问题开展调查，第一时间向社会公布调查进展，同时组织纪检、法院、检察院等相关部门启动执法监督，在案件处理过程中若发现不作为、乱作为的情况，将严肃责任追究。
