> Reference news, January 26 US media said the students in the Yangtze River is famous for its mustard cold forest covered mountains. But a mountain of them unique. Fuling gold top of the hill there is a great chimney overlooking the Wujiang River next. Built a few decades ago, the chimney has been idle. Until recently, the public would know what happened. 15 years ago, the local Government announced, in the hollow hills, remnants of once China's most ambitious military infrastructure projects, which is top-secret 816 nuclear plants.

> According to the New York Times, January 25, 816 top-secret projects from the very start. Locals as well as many of the soldiers at the base did not know the real purpose of the project.

> Top-secret nuclear plant construction suspended

> Reported that the project began in the late 60 's, is China's first attempt in the absence of the Soviet case involving construction of a nuclear reactor producing weapons-grade plutonium. In order to reduce the possibility of being attacked, authorities made an unusual decision, to build underground reactors, so that is challenging to design and build process much more complicated.

> In for more than 10 years, more than 60,000 workers involved in the high-risk projects. Eventually create artificial cave is said to be one of the largest in the world, by the thousands of tons of explosives to bomb and the 8-magnitude earthquake hit. The facility has schools, markets and hospitals, so that workers can live in complete isolation.

> For more than 20,000 young soldier of the year, the day is particularly hard. Many people thought the army is headed to Beijing, but was assigned to 816 engineering base. Their monthly salary of about 6 million, then about $2.44, its mandate is only small drills, explosives and engineering shovels to dig the hard rock.

> Reports that this is a dangerous job duration under a lot of pressure. The soldiers "with imperialism, revisionism and the counter-revolutionary struggle than speed" slogan inspired by working round the clock.

> But with China in the early 80 's of the last century for many military projects "military conversion", the near-completed nuclear plant construction was suddenly halted.

> Now turned into a tourist attraction

> Reported 816 nuclear plant as a fertiliser for 26 years, in 2010 and renewed vigor as a tourist attraction--this curious product of the cold war, it suffered a strange fate.

>, However, many workers who previously, 816 projects still allow them to chew the bitter regret.

> ", This project makes these young people pay too much, is our whole life," said veteran Chen Huaiwen, now 68 years old. He has participated in the 1969-1974 in Gold Hill mining work. "We need to let the public know that. Or it will be for our efforts and a huge waste of human resources. ”

> In response to such concerns, the relevant Department of 816 conducted a year-long renovation. Since it reopened in September 2016, since tourists – foreigners also joined in for the first time-and now you can visit the cave where about one-third. Inside the cave, a total of nearly 13 miles (about 20.92 km – net note) long channel.

> Qi Hong explained that, at that time, scientists, engineers, soldiers and other support staff from all over China to this remote place--there was only water can arrive – in 816 project construction. Many of them are the top talent in the country, attended top universities in China, or in the Soviet Union and Japan to study abroad.

> Qi Hong stood around for about 30 tourists, mostly elderly people in China. In the course of the 90-minute tour, Qi Hong took the crowd through an empty reactor hall, exhibition room and the dark maze consisting of the staircase, she often stops to explain, so older visitors can have a rest.

> Reported that most of this group of visitors is only recently heard about the project, but they are old enough, Government choices in Southwest China, the historical background of the picturesque area in the construction of large nuclear power plants.
