记者查阅公开报道发现，2015年7月8日到10日，确有一场名为“投资广西走向东盟——2015年香港企业广西行”的活动在南宁举行。参加活动的港商考察团于7月8日晚抵达南宁。
后有媒体报道，与微博中提到的“黄书记”相似，广西投资促进局确有一位黄姓党组书记。7日上午，该局回应：自2004年成立以来，到2015年7月15日前，该局没有李姓或黄姓领导班子成员，现任局党组书记黄文标2015年8月10日到该局报到任职。
目前，真相仍待进一步揭开，但这一事件，却暴露出官员对穿山甲等野味的“热衷”。
穿山甲是中国国家二级保护动物，曾为老百姓耳熟能详，其主要食物为白蚁，对维护生态平衡有重要作用。但由于其食用、药用价值和珍稀性，吃穿山甲在部分人眼里，成为身份和地位的象征。如今，国内的中华穿山甲已被列为“极危”物种，几近灭绝。
记者梳理发现，此前有不少官员在吃了几近灭绝的穿山甲后，也付出了相应的代价。
2014年5月，有网友网络举报称，浙江台州市仙居县公安局纪委原书记王小洲，在自家酒店吃了一餐8000元的“土菜”，其中有国家二级保护动物穿山甲。
一个月后，当地纪委公布调查结果：经调查，2013年12月1日，仙居县公安局纪委书记王小洲受朋友之托接待客人，委托他人预订中餐并安排菜单。
“同日中午，王小洲一行在预订的饭店用餐，菜品中有国家二级保护动物穿山甲，共消费人民币7810元。2014年5月8日，王小洲替朋友向饭店支付了餐费。”
仙居县纪委认为，王小洲身为党员领导干部，在替其朋友接待客人时，食用国家二级重点保护野生动物穿山甲，依据《中国共产党纪律处分条例》规定，决定给予王小洲党内警告处分。
除了王小洲，还有更高级别的领导干部，在吃穿山甲等野味的同时，背后隐藏着更深的权钱交易。
2015年11月，中纪委网站曾报道，某名已落马的市委书记，“经常在高档会所玩到凌晨两三点”。
文章中称，该市委书记主政一方时，喜欢喝高档红酒，嗜好野味，吃饭或宵夜时，通常会特意安排一些野味，其中就包括穿山甲。据参加者透露，他们在一起吃过的还有焖蛇、金钱龟、东青斑、金枪鱼等。
该市委书记“圈子里的老板们”，为了服侍好该书记，专门为他开了一家会所，会所风格按照他的喜好设置，装修方案由负责帮其安排活动的人与企业老板亲自商量，“经该书记首肯后才着手实施”。
该文章透露，其从2012年底到接受组织调查前，先后到这家会所消费达30多次，差不多每个月2次。另外，他还频频出入该市其他私人会所。
记者注意到，该市委书记落马时间为“2014年年中”。有媒体发文称，“从爱吃野味与频繁出入高档会所看，无疑指的是2014年6月27日被调查的原广州市委书记万庆良。”
在2014年底和2016年10月央视播出的专题片《作风建设永远在路上》和《永远在路上》中，也都透露万庆良热衷进出豪华会所。

其下属曾评价孙瑜“表里不一”，并举了他爱吃穿山甲的例子。
“自治区政府有一次在全区范围内开展专项行动保护野生动物，孙瑜再三强调，‘要严厉打击各类破坏野生动物资源违法犯罪活动’；但他下去检查工作时，最爱点的‘菜’就是国家二级保护动物穿山甲。”
2007年，媒体也曾调查穿山甲被食用的情况：当年5月17日晚，广州市公安局森林分局突查番禺市桥镇某酒家，发现吃野味的就是该市一群执法者。警方到来前，他们匆忙把菜倒掉了。而在同期另一次检查中，警方抓获了正在吃穿山甲的某税务局官员，他们最终被罚款5000元。
此外，2011年10月，时任广东省林业局局长张育文作客当地电台“民声热线”节目时，广东云浮一名陈姓厨师打进热线举报，称自己所在餐厅经常收到穿山甲等野生动物被要求加工，他举报多次未获回应。
“森林公安局局长也不管，他自己都吃这些东西，他还管这些东西啊……”该厨师称。
张育文当即表态会彻查处理，但记者并未查询到后续处理的公开报道。
上述调查中，有官员这样描述偏爱穿山甲等野味的复杂心态：“一方面，这是显示身份的方式；另外，野味是有药用价值，可以进补强身。穿山甲能防癌解毒、天麻炖猫头鹰去偏头痛、巨蜥有壮阳的功能。其实，大家都知道这些是国家一、二级保护动物，但没有人提出，我们也就心照不宣。”
该调查称，甚至有一些地方官员，为非法经营穿山甲的酒店撑起了保护伞。当地公安系统一名负责人说，查处一个非法烹饪野生动物的酒店，经常会有“相当身份的人”出来讲情。
