记者：中印战争期间，您具体的工作内容是什么？
王琪：当时我是工兵，负责修路、修桥还有去掉路上的障碍之类的，好让后面的部队顺利通过。
记者：既然是工兵，应该对周围的环境熟悉。那么，您是如何在中印边境走失的？之后又有些什么样的遭遇？
王琪：1962年12月，战争结束。1963年1月1日，元旦放假休息，我去外面去转，走了很远，忘记了回去的路。2号还在森林里，3号的时候，听到了汽车的声音。因为战争已经结束，所以便凑近去看，发现是印度红十字会的。我请他们救我，把我送到中国的红十字会。当时就想红十字会是救人的，所以就上了车。但是，他们没有那么做，而且怕我喊叫，把我的嘴都绑起来了，不让说话。最后把我拉到了（印度）军队的一个防区。
他们问我问题，我不回答。所以把我送进了（旁遮普的）监狱。其实，当时如果有个证件或者证明或许就能被送回国了，但走失时什么东西都没有带。
记者：您因为“间谍罪”被捕，听您大哥王致远说，因为逼问，您的腿被打出了问题，是不是这样？当时他们都问了些什么？
王琪：他们抓到我后，问我，你是做什么的，部队里有多少人、驻扎在哪个地方、配备什么样的武器。我的回答只有三个字：不知道。他们曾经给我强迫灌酒，好让我醉了说些东西出来。但是，喝醉以后，我睡了一觉。什么都没有回答。
被关6年没有干过活
记者：进监狱后，您再有没有被逼供？
王琪：你也知道，监狱都不好。但是，没有让我干活，把我放进监狱就不管了，每天就是吃饭、休息，只是（住的地方）没有光线。吃完饭，就去监狱的广场上待着，晚上再被关回去了。大家都用手抓着吃饭，我一开始不习惯，就用勺子。
记者：1969年，印度军方为什么最后又把您释放了？释放以后又是怎么生存下来的，毕竟流落他乡、一无所有啊。
王琪：他们高级法院说，我已经被关六七年了，就释放了。但是一个官员说，你不能回国，也不能去其他国家，你要留在印度。但是我不属于印度，而且什么权利也没有，我说你把我留在哪儿都行。他们就派警察把我押送到中央邦附近的一个村子（蒂罗迪村），是铁矿区。（蒂罗迪村位于一个铁矿山附近，印度政府的异己分子、中国士兵、巴基斯坦和孟加拉等国的回归人员，都安置在这里。四周是湖泊和森林，出去的路被封死，一片荒凉。记者记者注）
一开始，我在当地的一家面粉厂工作，最后，我给老板说，我要自己做，所以就在村里买些粮食、油盐酱醋之类的东西。当地人都不敢明着帮助我，但是村里的人对我很好。

记者：您现在会说三种语言，除了母语外，在那样的环境下，您是如何学会英语和印地语的？
王琪：监狱里都说英语，出去了都说印地语。在监狱的六七年里，（遇到不懂的），我和警察、哨兵们坐在一起，指着自己的胳膊、水杯、茶，然后比划着手势问他们。
而且，我和当地政府的一个工作人员学习了一个多月的英语，但是在面粉厂打工的时候，基本又忘掉了。出了监狱，都说印地语，所以慢慢地就学会了。
在印度这些年，很多汉字都记不起了。但是印度有很多中国人，开饭馆的、修鞋的，牙医尤其多。只要见到了中国人，我就和他们要中文的书本，才慢慢记起来。
“见到家里来信我哭了”
记者：1986年，您怎么突然就有机会给家里人写信了？
王琪：当时，中国和印度的关系变好一些。两个国家之间可以信件往来。所以，我去邮局给家里寄了信，寄出去一个月后，才收到家里的信。见到家里的来信，我哭了，更加想家，突然感觉回家有了希望，而且家人知道了我还活着。所以心里放心了，心里只有两个字——回国。于是，向印度政府还有咱们大使馆提出，赶紧落实我回国。
记者：您是怎么认识现在的妻子？有什么故事？
王琪：当地人说，你一个人怎么生活。当时，我看上了当地的一个姑娘，但是不能见她。村子里的人就给我介绍。其实，我看不上那个姑娘，家里很穷，弟弟妹妹都很小。但是，介绍的人说，他也不强制，但是你一个人在这边，村子里的人不帮助你咋办。所以就结了婚。（婚后，王琪与爱人抚育了4名孩子，两个儿子、两个女儿，但28岁的大儿子由于疾病不幸离世，王琪也因为爱子治病花光了所有的积蓄。）
记者：54年了，您终于回到家乡，以后准备怎么安排？
王琪：可以去印度也可以回国，两边都行。
今天，王琪一家并未回家祭扫，王琪家人称，先给老人理个发、泡泡澡，休息几天再回去，毕竟他长期生活在咸阳，曾经就读的高中和酒店只是一墙之隔。
