河北省青皇岛市山海关区人民法院变更羁押期限通知书显示，因依法延长审理期限，根据刑诉法规定，经中国最高人民法院批准，延长其羁押期限，现羁押期限自2017年2月14日至2017年5月14日。
法晚记者了解到，目前，马重群被羁押于青龙满族自治县看守所。
2014年11月12日，新华社发表题为《河北强力惩治腐败：10个月立案14808起 查处县处级以上干部238人》的通稿，其中提及11月7日上午河北省在落实中央巡视组反馈意见大会上的通报，“某市一涉嫌受贿、贪污、挪用公款的官员家中搜出现金上亿元，黄金37公斤，房产手续68套”。
经河北省检察院证实，该官员正是秦皇岛市城管局副调研员（副处级）、北戴河供水总公司总经理马超群。
据媒体公开报道，马重群是马超群的弟弟，同样供职于河北秦皇岛供水系统。马超群2005年任秦皇岛市自来水总公司副总经理兼北戴河公司经理的时候，马重群为山海关开发区公司负责人。
2014年4月15日，马重群涉嫌受贿罪被执行逮捕。
另据中国青年报报道，在此前后，马家另有包括马超群妻儿在内的6人被司法机关采取强制措施，涉嫌罪名包括受贿罪、掩饰、隐瞒犯罪所得罪等。马超群的妹妹马青茹涉嫌的是非法持有枪支罪。
