Researchers believe that the study results also helpful on urban management in China. Assuming a large Chinese city had 65,000 mainly blue cab, calculated according to the average accident rate of taxis in Singapore, after the body color changed to a striking yellow, the city can be reduced 4,700 taxi-related traffic accidents every year, so as to reduce property losses of about 50 million Yuan.

夏小雨与新加坡合作者的初衷是研究如何提高公共交通安全，减少事故发生概率。选择研究出租车，一是因为这是大城市居民经常使用的一种公共交通工具；二是出租车配备有完备的信息系统，便于对每一辆车做完整的行车记录分析。
研究人员联系了新加坡最大的一家出租车公司，该公司提供了所有司机近3年完整的事故记录，还有随机抽取的3000多名司机的详细个人资料以及行车记录等。由于这家公司是在2002年由两个子公司合并而成，所以其出租车有蓝黄两种颜色，但是车辆都是同一品牌和型号。
分析显示，虽然黄色和蓝色出租车的司机招募过程完全相同，司机也是被随机分配驾驶某一辆出租车，但是黄色出租车车队的事故率总是低于蓝色出租车车队。由于黄色和蓝色出租车车队司机在驾驶经验、学历水平、年龄和居住地等参数方面没有差别，研究人员得出结论：车身颜色跟出租车事故率之间有重要联系。
“我们通过事故类型和事故发生时的能见度分析，发现黄色出租车相对于蓝色出租车有更高的能见度，更能引起其他司机的注意，所以可以减少其他车辆撞上出租车的概率。这种能见度优势使得黄色出租车发生交通事故的概率比蓝色出租车低9%，”夏小雨说。
研究人员认为，这项研究结果对中国的城市管理也有借鉴意义。假设中国某大城市有6.5万辆以蓝色为主的出租车，按照新加坡出租车的平均事故率计算，在车身颜色改为醒目的黄色后，这个城市每年可减少4700次出租车相关交通事故，从而减少约5000万元人民币的财产损失。
