Lyft reached a settlement with driver: US $27 million-Lyft, car-IT information

San Francisco judge wensi·chabuliya (Vince Chhabria) settlement agreement with the driver on Thursday finally agreed to Lyft, ended due to driver complaints of "independent contractor" status submitted by the class-action lawsuit.

Judges agree Lyft to drivers paying $27 million settlement programme, the court records show that in June last year the programme was initially approved.

The judge had previously dismissed Lyft proposed $12.25 million settlement agreement, the judge said compensation "too little".

Lyft drivers in California sued Lyft company before, said drivers should be classified as a full-time employee, Lyft should be reimbursed for their fuel costs and maintenance costs. These costs have been borne by the drivers.

Drivers are still in the final independent contractors.

Judge chabuliya warned: "the agreement is not perfect. Under the California law, Lyft driver status has not improved. ”

Uber in class-action lawsuits in California and Massachusetts also faced the same. Uber proposed last year to pay $100 million in damages from the driver, but was dismissed by the judge, the judge considers that the compensation amount is insufficient.

Lyft has more than 70,000 drivers in the United States, compared with more than 1.5 million Uber international drivers. If the two drivers had to be classified as a full-time employee of the company, their profits and valuations will be seriously affected.

Lyft driver's Attorney, Shannon Lisi·liaodan (Shannon Liss-Riordan) said on Thursday that she was "very pleased that this case come to an end." The lawsuit is due in 2013.

Lyft spokesman said the settlement agreement "retains the flexibility to choose the driver, the driver can choose to cooperate with Lyft, location and last time."

The company said: the survey of drivers more than 80% of Lyft drivers want to keep independent contractor status, so they can change their occupational status more flexibly.

Settlement agreement provides for extremely long drive driver to provide compensation for thousands of dollars, driving mileage shorter drivers can also be symbolic of cash. As part of the deal, drivers can get other benefits such as more protective measures to prevent the driver's App will be dropped.

Lawyer says "driver should be classified as employees or independent contractors of the problem can only be solved later. ”
