贵州省国土资源厅表示，作为化石和地质遗迹保护主管部门，他们将积极指导、监督瓮安化石产地保护工作。目前，国土厅已要求在划定的保护范围内立即暂停采矿工作。
国土厅要求相关部门采取措施，积极配合中科院南京地质古生物所等科研机构专家，在2017年4月底之前圈定瓮安生物群核心化石产地范围，完成地质概况、灾害风险和磷矿采矿权等详细调查报告，6月底之前完成瓮安生物群化石保护区规划报告并上报，国土厅将在收到报告一周之内组织专家评审，并将结果上报贵州省政府。

瓮安县委、县政府也表示，参加过此次生物群化石保护与科学研究国际研讨会后，现在已经充分认识到瓮安生物群的重大科学意义，也明白它是全球独一无二的早期生命化石产地，将无条件支持对它的保护工作。并指定副县长桂国全具体负责这项保护工作，尽快制定化石保护方案。
据了解，保护区范围内还涉及到一家国营矿和一家民营矿。其中，瓮福集团作为国企，声明将积极配合对瓮安生物群化石的保护和文化内涵的发掘工作，希望国家能够投入专项资金支持，同时，该集团也表示将投入矿山地质灾害保护经费参与化石保护工作。而作为民营企业的瓮安磷矿，其负责人表示，将全力配合瓮安县委县政府的安排，但同时也希望政府能妥善处理相关矿权置换和人员安置等问题。
