4月19日，武汉学院宣布，正式命名“马化腾教学楼”、“企鹅广场”和“知己教学楼”，并以此向几位企业家对学校的捐赠行为表示真诚的感谢。

腾讯主要创始人、董事会主席兼首席执行官马化腾，腾讯主要创始人张志东，以及腾讯早期创始团队成员、微光创投创始合伙人吴宵光作为捐赠人出席并见证了命名仪式。他们亲手种下校树丹桂树，表达了对武汉学院百年树人的希冀。

马化腾与陈一丹共同为“马化腾教学楼”揭幕
武汉学院于2015年5月转设独立，腾讯主要创始人陈一丹就是该校的创办人。据了解，陈一丹自2009年伊始开始向武汉学院注入资金，就在办学章程里承诺不从学校拿走一分钱，并在《办学许可证》明文固定了下来。以“办学不取回报”的方式，开启国内非营利性民办公益大学的先河。“我们期望通过这样的实践，探索一条中国非营利性民办大学的办学之路”，陈一丹当时说。
2016年12月，“湖北一丹大学教育发展基金会”完成首轮共建基金募集，该基金专项致力于支持武汉学院的持续建设和发展。这是中国民办高校首次以共建基金形式完成捐赠募集，共建基金由热心教育公益事业的企业家们共同捐赠。
共建基金的首轮捐赠，包括马化腾领捐1亿元人民币、张志东和吴宵光分别捐赠5000万人民币和2000万人民币。此外，晓扬科技投资董事长蔡明君为教育创新改革作出捐赠；北京国华置业董事长房超捐赠“华置奖学金”；银禧环球资产主席吴银龙捐赠专项助学金；武汉学院校董、武汉光谷职业学院董事长张箭为校园文化建设作出捐赠。

在当天的仪式上，陈一丹向各捐赠人颁发了捐赠证书。此次腾讯公司的三位主要创始人齐齐飞赴武汉，真正体现出教育共建基金的意义不止于“共捐”，更在于“共建”。陈一丹也曾多次表示开放办学的理念：“武汉学院是公益性质的民办大学，是致力于社会长远建设的开放教育平台。自办学之初，我就希望有更多关注教育的社会贤达人士一起加入”。
在国际社会上，尤其是在发达国家，教育公益捐赠有着深厚的社会文化，企业家和校友都以向高校捐赠为荣，而高校也随处可见铭记捐赠人的命名和标识。美国顶尖私立大学背后，都有雄厚的捐赠基金支持，其中哈佛、斯坦福的捐赠基金高达两三百亿美元。
