当我们一边吐槽iPad没键盘就没生产力、但一边有不少科技公司致力于把人类的实体键盘通通灭绝……这究竟是怎样的一回事?

实体键盘的原罪

让我们先暂时排除了那些因为键盘“机械感”,而爱上机械键盘的情怀(笑):假设大家很确定自己不需要打字、不用什么快捷键的情况下,是否还想带个键盘出街呢?一般来说,大家应该未必想多带一块笨重的东西外出吧。

实体键盘欠缺弹性。尽管坊间的实体键盘有不同种类的变化,但它总不能像屏幕一样,可以随时改变形状、改变排列、改变形态,喜欢时让它出现、不喜欢就让它消失。故此,如果我们能完全使用虚拟键盘,人机交互的方式能更多元化;

实体键盘不够便携。用过New MacBook(上图)的人都知道:在那台超薄键盘上打字是有多别扭?但不用这种别扭的键盘呢?又很难做到又轻又薄;

对于厂商来说,超薄笔记本的键盘既不易设计,成本也自然更高。更何况厂商在剧烈竞争下为了cost down,超薄键盘再便宜也想省下。

这就是为什么我们一直想消灭实体键盘:因为如果不码字的话,键盘就只是一坨不可燃垃圾。

为何人类少不了键盘?

虽然如此,为什么人类用了几十年时间,都不能把键盘消灭?那其实不是我们对键盘有深厚的情怀,而是我门根本离不开键盘:

我们在交流时少不了文字。也许我们可以在手机上利用语言来代替文字,但在电脑之上,文字输入仍然是十分重要;

虚拟键盘可以代替键盘,但屏幕上的虚拟键盘只是目前最好的键盘替代品,却不是令人满意的替代品。先不要说手感不佳的问题,最少我们很难透过虚拟键盘盲打,码字效率会大受影响;

简单来说,目前我们只要要在电脑上进行文字输入,实体键盘无论在效率上、还是在体验上仍然是最佳的,没有之一。

为何手机能消灭实体键盘?

可是,为什么苹果用了几年时间就能干掉手机的键盘?那其实不是苹果自己干掉,而是用户”不喜欢在手机上码字”。

对于很多用户来说,手机向来都不是一个优良的文字输入工具。尽管在BlackBerry最兴盛的时期,很多职场中人也需要用它来发电邮;但即使有实体键盘,但在小屏上码字的体验一样不理想。由于手机屏幕太小的关系,一个超薄的机身、一个好的屏幕、一套易用的使用者介面,对用户来说也比起实体键盘更重要:我们宁愿拿手机来听音乐、玩游戏、上上网,也无意经常挤在那狭小的实体键盘上打字(下图)。

但是,这并不代表我们不想在手机上码字,我们只是宁愿把码字的功能迁移到电脑上。虽然不少平板电脑都被拿来当游戏机、电子书或是影音工具,所以用户并不介意它没键盘;而在职场上也有不少人拿平板电脑来当收银机、当画板、当展示工具,也用不上键盘。但当我们不想用手机打字的时候,大屏的平板电脑、笔记本电脑作为替代的“码字”工具,重要性与日俱增。

键盘灭绝计划A:优化的虚拟键盘

在刚刚进入智能手机的世代,当我们还在反思实体键盘的重要性时,不少科技公司都想透过虚拟键盘来取代实体键盘。无疑,虚拟键盘一直都被人垢病,但我们仍然致力于优化虚拟键盘,来改善恶劣的操作手感,包括:

减少虚拟键盘的操作时间。既然我们觉得虚拟键盘不好用,效率不够高,最好的方法当然是改善输入效率,减少使用时间。例如用联想字来进行“一键输入”、透过像Swype之类的滑动手势来避免频繁的敲击屏幕等。但是,即使这方案是目前最常用的“键盘灭绝方案”,但它的帮助其实仅属聊胜于无;

为虚拟键盘设置回馈力。虚拟键盘难以盲打,原因之一是它没有回馈力。在触控屏开始普及之时,像Viliv S5和BlackBerry 9500 Storm等智能设备,就曾尝试为虚拟键盘加入回馈力,遗憾的是,其虚假的回馈感并没有带来太好的体验。后来苹果推出的Tapic Engine手感颇佳,但爱范儿曾指出它那单调的按压感,亦很难为全局键盘带来逼真的回馈力。

为屏幕增加触感。这个方案将可能是最佳的“键盘灭绝”方案,但也可能是目前在技术上最不成熟的虚拟键盘方案。早在2010年,诺基亚就已开发Senseg的带触感屏幕,微软亦在同年申请了带触感屏幕的专利,也有传闻指苹果在2012年曾打算推出使用Senseg技术的触感屏幕。但无论是诺基亚、微软苹果,最终都没有把带触感屏的产品拿上枱面;更讽刺的是后来连Senseg也被深圳公司所收购。如果我们真的想在虚拟键盘上要点手感,目前只能借助这种小道具(下图)。

键盘灭绝计划B:取代键盘的输入方案

厂商除了尝试使用虚拟键盘来取代键盘,也有透过全新的文字输入方案来取代键盘,例如:

手写输入法是最常见的替代方案,也算是最早的一种输入方案。平板的鼻祖:苹果Newton和Palm PDA均内建手写输入法,但辨识准确度饱受批评;尽管后来手写输入法在中文电脑上发扬光大,准确度亦有长足的进步;但众所周知──实体纸笔的书写效率,也不及熟练的实体键盘使用者,更何况是手写输入法?

光学文字辨识(OCR)的准绳度近年亦有很大的提升,特别在智能手机加入镜头后,已经常被用作文字输入工具:例如Evernote就推出了Scannable 让用户轻松扫描文字。但是,光学文字辨识必须有现成的文本,输入才有效率;否则要经OCR来输入文字,速度可能比手写输入更低;

语音辨识应该是目前最主流的方案,它的准绳度虽然仍不理想,但我们不能否认其技术在近年进步神速,而且目前苹果微软(下图)和Google均陆续采用这个方案,使它愈来愈普及。但是,语音辨识技术限制更大,不但受制于使用时的客观环境、亦受限于使用者的语言和发音习惯。即使它目前是最主流的方案,但仍然远叫不上是个流行的方案。

键盘灭绝计划C:取代文字的沟通方案

而最激进的方案,莫过于促使人类减少使用文字。只要人类可以不透过文字来沟通,那我们就更毋须在智能手机或平板电脑,尴尬地码字。

今天的智能设备大量加入各种传感器,让我们可以透过不同传感器数据,传达更多文字所不能表达的信息。懒𠊚在微信上打字?我可以直接向对方发条语音信息;想让太太挑选一下喜欢的衣裙?直接把照片发给她吧;想看老爸的近况?一通视像电话,比起任何爱心信件都直接;想在Uber上叫车?现在就连地址也不用填,直接用GPS定好自己的位置,然后在地图上点选目的地就搞定。

看,在智能设备的世代,很多时真的不用码字。

问题是当智能设备在今天已广泛普及之时,我们仍然发现有些事情还是以文字来表达较有效率。举例说:公司要一份业绩报告,客户要一份计划书,我们总不能拍一套公司简介的视频来交差吧?

实体键盘能被完全灭绝吗?

人类在文明诞生之后,几乎不曾脱离文字而发展;文字会随文明而生,也许会与文明一起灭亡吧?。所以当我们需要交流,就少不了文字,尽管多媒体和传感器的出现,让我们减低了对文字的倚赖性,但我们在很多情况下还是少不了它。

键盘目前是最好的文字输入方案,但它不是唯一的输入方案,也未必是未来最好的输入方案。我们现在只能期待科技发展,真正的把电脑从键盘之中解放出来。
