不过外媒也指出，在中国市场已经出现了大一批占据优势的软件商店，比如腾讯、阿里巴巴以及不同手机厂商的商店，谷歌软件商店要在中国市场发展，将面临对手激烈的竞争。

除了手机软件和游戏之外，谷歌也通过Play商店提供大量的数字内容，比如电影、电视剧等。由于安卓系统通过开源的方式免费提供给全世界的手机厂商，因此Play是谷歌目前唯一直接通过安卓生态实现的盈利模式。

另外值得一提的是，在中国市场有一部分智能手机搭载的是并未大幅度改动的谷歌版安卓系统，谷歌部分服务获得保留，谷歌Play重返中国市场也存在一定的硬件基础。比如芬兰HMD公司和富士康集团联合在中国市场推出的诺基亚手机，也采用了谷歌版本的安卓系统。
