虽然是作为姚明进军商业的起始点,但“姚餐厅”是姚明只出品牌不出钱的企业。餐厅是“姚之队”负责人章明基用姚明的品牌入股的一笔投资,目前主要由姚明的父母姚志源、方凤娣与合伙人来一起运营管理。

自从2005年开张以来,姚餐厅的生意一度相当火爆。虽然2013年有媒体爆料,在美国休斯敦市中心的一家姚餐厅已关门谢客,另外一家的生意也没有之前那么火热。但姚餐厅已经成为了中国人到休斯敦出游必须游历的一站,这些年给姚明带来的品牌曝光和财富也是不容小觑的。

2011年,姚明宣布成立姚家族葡萄酒酒业公司,并在美国加州纳帕山谷建立了自己的酒庄。除了酒厂,姚明家族酒庄还在纳帕山谷拥有6个葡萄种植园。

姚基金是由姚明发起的,在中国青少年发展基金会架构下设立的专项慈善公益基金。姚基金致力于助学兴教,促进青少年健康与福利等各种社会公益慈善活动。

2008年5月14日,28岁的姚明第一时间向汶川地震灾区捐款50万元人民币,在美国向中国红十字会外币账户捐款21·4万美元,捐款总额约合200万元人民币。
