谷歌并非一家内容公司,而仅仅是通过计算机算法进行网页抓取、内容聚合的厂商,而谷歌和YouTube目前的算法和审核制度,依然无法阻止一些低劣内容和极端言论出现在网络上。比如在美国总统大选中,谷歌搜索遭到舆论批评,原因是在搜索结果中推荐了一些假新闻网站,用虚假的统计数据干扰选民。

在YouTube上,该公司允许视频制作者上传自由制作的内容,对于仇恨、极端主义的视频未能够及时删除。

为了降低对于网络广告的依赖,谷歌近些年开始研发各种创新项目,但是令人失望的是,这些项目大多数以失败告终,无法贡献实质性的收入。谷歌先后失败的新项目包括地面光纤宽带、智能眼镜、高空上网无人机、机器人,谷歌在智能家居的努力也受到了挫折,另外自动驾驶技术研发团队被指进展“慢如蜗牛”,迟迟不能够形成实用的产品和技术,被其他竞争对手赶超。

谷歌开发的安卓系统,已经成为全世界最大的手机系统,占据了八成五的市场份额。不过谷歌从安卓生态直接获利的渠道,仅有Play内容商店一项,和庞大的搜索广告相比,Play的收入几乎可以忽略不计。

毋庸置疑的是,传统的网页搜索服务已经呈现出“老态”。机构数据显示移动互联网时代,人们更多关注APP(手机软件),效率低下的网页搜索逐步被用户放弃,实际上网页和网站也已经成为互联网信息和应用服务的没落角色。
